Prison consultant? I hope it was Martha Stewart. She can teach him how to make doilies out toilet paper and how to make a good red wine to go with the prison mystery-meat loaf.

I didn't understand the story: at first they say that the 150-year sentence means Madoff will at best negotiate down from high-security to medium-security, a level at which he's guaranteed to be assaulted. But then the article goes on to discuss the BOP's method for determining an inmate's security level, which makes Madoff a good candidate for a low score, then goes on to discuss his low-security options. Whaaaa?

The Federal Bureau of Prisons recently changed their security designation parameters. It used to be a very simple scale that quite frequently misgraded people a lot of the time. Now it is a very complicated system that is even more prone to bad outcomes (for those being designated). For example, now age is a factor. The younger you are, the more base points you get. The more points overall, the higher your security level.
HOWEVER, with that said, they have one very clear guideline. Depending on your total sentence length after good time consideration, if you score so many years, you are AUTOMATICALLY put into at LEAST a certain security level.
10 Years+ = Low
20 Years + = Medium
30 Years + = High
So if you have an 11 year sentence remaining when you get designated, you are almost guaranteed to not be eligble for a minimum security camp. 150 years means Madoff will most likely be designated to a USP (High Security) facility. They can override this if they want of course, but since they won't want to seem biased, they probably will not. But there is not a chance in hell that he will be going to a minimum security camp. A medium security facility is a long shot.

Okay, what the heck does "FPMITA" mean?

I've looked through search results, dictionary results, a slang translator, and even Urban Dictionary.
