Dunkin Donuts Pulls Hot Chocolate, Dunkaccinos Over Salmonella Scare

2884 views

Dunkin Donuts is stopping sales of its hot chocolate and Dunkaccino products because one of its milk supplier, Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, found salmonella on some of its equipment. DD says they haven't found any contamination in any of their products but wanted to be safe. We're glad to see a company being proactive about food safety and we're glad to see testing uncover contamination before any illnesses were reported, but still, pathogens in cookie dough and hot chocolate is just mean.

Oh, how I love me some DD hot chocolate, although they serve it at approximately a thousand degrees and I have go wait patiently for it to cool down enough to get my fix.

I like a 50/50 mix of their coffee and hot chocolate.w

I loves me some DD Hot Chocolate as well.

Except when the powder dispenser thing isn't working correctly and I end with a cup of hot brown water, which I don't realize until 20 minutes later b/c the thousand degree temp has prevented me from tasting it until then. Then I am a sad panda. :(

OMAC: I may be wrong since I don't drink coffee, but isn't that what the Dunkacino is?

Where does DD sell Dunkaccinos? About 2 years ago I tried to order one but was told they were discontinued, so I stopped going into their stores.

Did they bring them back, or is it just a regional thing now?

user-pic

@OMAC: Isn't that exactly what a Dunkaccino is?

user-pic

@Coelacanth: Wouldn't you be sad if you had a Dunkin Donuts cup crammed on your head? Poor kitteh.

@Coelacanth:

Probably from the caffeine crash. Should've taken 5 Hour Energy! copyright all rights reserved etc

user-pic

@Thread: In NY, they recently brought them back (like less than a year ago I think).

user-pic

@Coelacanth: I don't think the cat looks sad. When my cat has that expression it is the "I am not not amused" look, which is soon followed by the "I am going to attack you" look and action.

I didn't think DD still sold those. I got one about 9 years ago when they were new on the market, and I thought I was drinking donut batter. Far too sweet and thick for my tastes.

Good thing it's the 95 degrees here and I'm not depending on my Hot Liquid Crackaccino to get me through the morning...

@lehrdude:

+1 - Loves me some DD Crackaccino. Starbucks sucks. DD for the win.

user-pic

I'm surprised anything can live through being brewed at Dn'D. The taste certainly doesn't...

user-pic

They are taking it very seriously! For real!

@tbax929:

My favorite T-Shirts that the employees in my DD wear say: "Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks!"

user-pic

@Trance1861: It looks like a combination of the "If you don't get this thing off my head I'm going to attack you" look, and the "If you get close enough to take this thing off my head I'm going to attack you" look.

A photo like that really can't end well.

user-pic

@Ubik2501: I think there is also a touch of "You just woke me up, so I'm going to attack you"

user-pic

There's real milk in their hot chocolate? I find that more surprising than anything else.

user-pic

@Thread: The ones near me sell them. I love Dunkaccinos.

user-pic

@lehrdude: They actually sell 'em at a nearby store. I'd only wear it while drinking from my Starbucks reusable cup, of course...

user-pic

@Thread: though it appears they have stopped it again (at least momentarily).

@SeniorPonzologist_GitEmSteveDave: yeah, for some reason, the DD tastes freaking horrible in jersey. here in CT, angels sing when i press that glorious cup against my lips.

maybe its the water? i dunno. all i know is i had heartburn for a week the last time i drank DD in the garden state.

user-pic

@mac-phisto: Mine always tastes burnt. I stick to Wawa or fresh perked.

user-pic

@SeniorPonzologist_GitEmSteveDave: Seems lately the quality of coffee at many places ... Starbucks, DD, even independent shops and restaurants ... has been going down. It's a widespread phenomenon. I can only assume it's cost; they're using less coffee, which not only makes it weaker-tasting, it means more water runs through less grounds, which draws in more bitterness.

The only exception is McDonalds. A year or so ago their coffee improved drastically, and so far, has stayed that way. I expect that to change any day now. It has to. Everyone else has let their coffee go to crap, McD's can't be far behind.

I used to go into places like DD for coffee all the time. Not any more. I'm making my own much more than before.
