Cop Brandishes Gun At McDonald's Because Order Takes Too Long

14922 views

A Denver police officer, annoyed that his McDonald's order was taking too long, allegedly pointed his gun at the drive-thru attendant. Then he left without paying.

Sources familiar with the case, and the fast food worker's account of what happened, say two off-duty Denver police officers placed an order from their car in the early morning hours of May 21. But once at the drive through window, the employee said the men became agitated and angry at how long their food was taking. The men thought they were being ignored, according to contacts familiar with the worker's account. The male clerk then said one of the officer's flashed his police badge and pointed a pistol through the drive through window in a threatening manner, before driving off without paying.

What is it about McDonald's that makes people think that any snafu that occurs there is a dire emergency? And now that at least one police officer seems to agree, can we really condemn the morons who keep calling 911 when their orders are messed up?

McDonald's serves donuts?

user-pic

he must be related to the cop who pulled the ambulance over

user-pic

Are the police hurting that bad for recruits that they allow just any old asshole to join up? What are their standards? I know at least three people that I went to high school with, who were idiots on the brink of flunking out, and now they're cops.

Awesome.

I'm not saying all cops are assholes, but any asshole can be a cop. I'm freakin sick of all the abused power that I see. Assholes.

user-pic

If this is true, this idiot needs to be fired and then prosecuted for felony menacing and theft.

What a jackass.

user-pic

Of course this will be dealt with a slap on the wrist for the officers in question, meanwhile if anyone so much as gets agitated with a cop they get stunned into submission and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

user-pic

@ben gardners boat: I recall reading a story about 8 or 9 years ago in a local newspaper in Western MA about a man who was rejected from the police force because he was too smart. He scored so well on the tests that they were convinced he would "get bored" as a cop. That should be a sign for you.

user-pic

@pjstevens77: No crap, what makes cops think they have the right to act this way? You cannot pull your gun on fast food workers for being slow and you cannot pull over an ambulance on its way to the hospital with someone in the back.

user-pic

@ben gardners boat: Are the police hurting that bad for recruits that they allow just any old asshole to join up?

Yes. Especially in the biggest and smallest departments. Because the pay is crap but requires a college degree, and the hours are crap so many of those with a family decide to get out after a few years.

user-pic

@ben gardners boat: Here's what I figured out. Cops and troopers suck and are mostly jerks, but Sheriff's are almost always nice and treat people with respect. I know why there is a big difference, but still it's really stupid that cops and troopers act the way they do and are usually allowed to.

user-pic

So they're getting charged with armed robbery, right?

user-pic

"can we really condemn the morons who keep calling 911 when their orders are messed up?"

Why yes, yes we can.

Also, I thought that cops aren't supposed to draw a gun until they have intent to use it. I hope this guy gets locked away for a good long time.

user-pic

@Michael Ortega: Or if you're in a Canadian airport and don't speak much English, stunned repeatedly until you die.

Or you're a kid in an interview room who mysteriously gets shot in the head.

Looks like our mounted police are violent up there on their high horses.

user-pic

I think I'd be more pissed off if they snapped their fingers and whistled at me to get my attention.

After all, flashing your badge shows your badge number, doesn't it?

user-pic

Imagine if this was a story about a soldier in Iraq brandishing his M4 because his shawarma order took too long.

Anyway, abuse of power sucks.

user-pic

Left without paying? Every McDonalds I know of you pay at the first window and then wait too long for your order at the second window.

user-pic

"I SAID, I WANT A McRIB SANDWICH!!"

user-pic

@pjstevens77: So this person hit the officer while resisting arrest?

user-pic

I want a litre of cola.

damn burger punks!

user-pic

The world is either in love with McDonald's or completely sick of them. Like the last paragraph had said...McDonald's in always involved in some weird incident.

Thank you Roy Kroc!!!

PS...Cops suck

user-pic

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the cameras at the place have caught this if he pointed his sidearm through the window?

I have a feeling the officer may have opened a coat to show his badge, and in the process, his sidearm could be seen, and this person freaked and when re-told made it appear it was pointed at them. Just my two cents. Of course, Police are people, and some are a little off and have a sick sense of humor, but please don't condemn all of them, b/c then you're saying my Dad and all his friends are assholes, and they aren't.

user-pic

@Bearded Rapper: People who abuse power should then become abused.

user-pic

What we need is higher pay and more stringent entrance exams for the law enforcement field. Today, it really is that no one with a criminal record and moderate physical fitness can become a cop. I'd like to see that change.

How about 4 years police academy or college degree, in addition to some aptitude test (just basics), and then a thorough interview conducted by the sheriff department? In addition, high school grades are used as 50% of the judging criteria. Because really, a lot of people go into the law enforcement sector because that's about the only job that pays relatively well that doesn't require any higher education than a GED.

user-pic

@pjstevens77:

LOL, great idea About new show,

Hostility Badge, A new series from FOX.

Where bad cops arrest bad cops.

user-pic

I'm no legal expert, but isn't pulling out a gun and stealing something usually known as "Armed Robbery" (or "Aggravated Robbery" in Colorado).

user-pic

What, no donuts...."i oughta blow you away?"

user-pic

@Bearded Rapper: I'm not getting where you're going with that...what are you saying?

user-pic

He didn't want a large Farva. He wanted a liter cola.

user-pic

I bet nothing will happen to the cops who did this. Nice abuse of power. It's even funnier that police can't understand why some civilians hate them so much.

user-pic

@MaytagRepairman:
Not always, the McD's closest to my home only does two windows during meal rush times otherwise its drive right up to window 1.

user-pic

I'd take forever. Let him shoot me. He's a policeman, for crying out loud! If he honestly shoots a civilian over a 7 minute cheeseburger - well, I don't think I want to live in that world anyway.

If we don't seriously backlash against police brutality and abuse of power, we're always going to live in a fear society, indentured to our masters with badges and guns.

user-pic

@a5un:
My local police department requires at least two years college with a preference for a bachelors, lie detector test, psychological profiling and an eight month police academy.
The one problem with all of this is that a sociopath/psychopath can bluff through the psych profile and lie detector.

user-pic

Can't you see he was having a Big Mac attack

user-pic

@Gokuhouse: While we're on the topic, can someone explain why regular cops often drive cars that say 'Sheriff'?

user-pic

"said one of the officer's flashed his police badge and pointed"

Grammar fail.

user-pic

@TinkishDelight: B/C they are deputies. It's referring to the Sheriff's office.

user-pic

@a5un: I don't know where you have checked the requirements to be a cop, but many places I've heard of do require a college degree.

user-pic

@Pixelantes Anonymous:

If this story is factual...They should be.

Point gun . Check
Take money or mercahndise without paying . Check

Yep , this is armed robbery for folks like you and me.

user-pic

@LegoMan322: ...until you need help with something.

It sure is easy to paint everyone with one brush b/c of the actions of a few. Sadly, there's dirtbags in every profession.

user-pic

@Michael Ortega: DPD Internal Affairs is handing it over to the DA, so it sounds like they think they have a good case. Not a good sign for the cop.

user-pic

@NerdBurger_GitEmSteveDave: I agree...they're held to a higher standard, are always on duty (even when they're not), and are expected to make life or death decisions in the blink of an eye.

Let's not condemn the whole profession b/c of one or two bad apples.

user-pic

@a5un: Check into some police departments hiring standards and then re-read your post. You'll be a little embarrassed.

user-pic

@NerdBurger_GitEmSteveDave: From what I recall in that video he did not hit the officer. I saw the dash cam video, and the amateur camera phone video.

user-pic

@Galactica: I was talking from what I know about LAPD. It says GED is required, but 2 or 4 year college degree can be substituted. So yea, I think a college degree isn't required...And I would say LAPD is prolly one of the largest police force in the US (size wise)...
