Looking for some inexpensive entertainment this weekend? It’s HBO and Cinemax free preview weekend at a number of major cable providers, including Charter, Comcast, Cox, Time Warner, and Verizon FIOS. If that doesn’t include you, keep an eye on the FreePreview.tv site to learn when your provider’s previews are coming up. [FreePreview.tv] (Thanks, Tim!)

Excellent, now i can watch the season premiere of true blood and decide if it’s worth it to get HBO again
@edwardso: I’ve heard they are killing off one of the coolest characters and I am not happy about it
@nakedscience: I’ve read almost all of the books, it’ll be interesting to see how closely they follow
@edwardso: Just like the Dexter books, the writing was so horrible I couldn’t get past the second chapter. I enjoy the shows much more. (And man, are they cheesetastic!)
I love True Blood, but I don’t have HBO. Just have to watch it the next day.
Yet another great thing about my FiOS. I’m almost brought to tears.
“‚Ä¢ Pick a bed time (and a wake up time) and stick to it. Going to sleep at different times every night-10:00 p.m. one night and 1:00 a.m. the next-disrupts optimal sleep. Try to go to sleep at around the same time every night, even on the weekends. And wake up around the same time every day (with not more than an hour’s difference on the weekends). “
Dear God, no. I have to be at work by 7am every day, sometimes 6:30.
I am not waking up at 6am on the weekends unless I HAVE to.
@nakedscience: Uh. Clearly I commented in the wrong post. I AM AWESOME TODAY.
@nakedscience: But what if there’s a really good movie on HBO or Cinemax?
@larrymac: I don’t have Cable, I just watch it the next day
@nakedscience: where? this could be good for me
@edwardso: piratebay.org baby. If the network website or hulu provides it, I’ll watch it there, but I don’t think Showtime has their shows for free online, though I could be wrong.
@nakedscience: Downloading copyrighted shows is illegal, don’t do that.
You can wait a while and get the entire box set at your local library for free or on Netflix, avoiding the week-long wait to see the next episode and all commercials.
Watching TV sucks, but that doesn’t mean breaking the law is the answer.
@GuinevereRucker: Thanks, mom, I SO DID NOT KNOW THAT!
@nakedscience: Glad I was able to help you out
They don’t seem to list Wide Open West at all, anybody have any idea whether they’re participating?
Woo Hoo, Free Skinamax! Oh, wait. I’m not 16 anymore. Darn.
@rickinsthelens: I think I had more fun trying to find the goofs where you could see the tape or the sock than the actual scene itself.
@rickinsthelens: At one point in time in my youth I could always count on free-preview weekend having some softcore schlubbery. I would check out the schedules, too, to know when the good stuff was on.
And comb those schedules I did. My TV’s tuner broke and I convinced my folks to give me their old VCR so I could use that. I wound up buying the blank tapes separately and, when caught unprepared, I would record over other tapes that I would never see again by putting tape over the write-protect tab. “Peter Pan”? Eh, well, now you’re Real Sex 32.
At some point, though, shortly before I became legal for porn (well, not really legal, but clever enough to use photoshop and modify a scan of my drivers license to suddenly make me older and abusing the hell out of mail order and money orders), free preview weekends were shockingly lacking in skin. I had always wondered if it was on purpose.
I used to stumble across free preview channels when zapping through the channel list, but now with the DVR’s ability to delist unused and unwatched channels I don’t discover them anymore. So nice to learn of that site.
Once again, Comcast is a gigantic fail when it comes to … well … anything. Here in Atlanta, GA my comcastic rep said they “are not participating in the free preview due to anticipation of high call volume from the digital TV transition”
Once I can convince my wife of the evil that is Comcast – DirecTV here I come.
