Is there anyone else that is concerned about this? The chinese can't even make non-lethal toys now they're going to be building 3 ton SUVs!
I guess I'm just happy that they aren't actually making the military vehicle, just the abomination GM put out that required them to buy the name Hummer, which is why the "H2" was what they called the 2nd model.
Does this mean that the "Chinese Poison Train" is going to become the "Chinese Poison Hummer" in Consumerist posts?

I'm not sure what this means. Were there actually entire plants dedicated to nothing but building the Hummer and that's what they bought? Or, did they just buy the brand "Hummer" and vehicle designs?
@WiiPoleNotIncluded_GitEmSteveDave: That is a bit of a relief. I was not comfortable with the idea of handing over manufacture of a key military vehicle to the Chinese. Glad someone finally clarified it was only the civilian versions.
@WiiPoleNotIncluded_GitEmSteveDave: GM never made the military vehicle. It was built by AM General, which also made the H1 and H2 (the H3 is built by GM).
Woot! Cheap vehicles coming to North America shortly? YAY!
(I'm not worried, they still have to pass at least basic safety standards. Would make a fine commuter vehicle, if your commute doesn't involve highways.)
@armandbrown: I have absolutely no intention of purchasing a Hummer so this doesn't bother me as much...and with the recession and gas prices spiking again, I hope to keep seeing less and less of them, especially after 2009 models.

Are you implying that this privately owned business is somehow shadow-owned by the Chinese government? The way that this ostensibly open-minded and racially-neutral website openly bashes China and the Chinese is somewhat unsettling.

@GearheadGeek: BS on your Tahoe claims. They aren't even remotely similar. The H2 chassis is a modified Suburban chassis. The H2 has air ride suspension, not available on the Tahoe. The transfer case on the H2 is only available on the H2. The H2 has a Vortec 6.0, the Tahoe has a 5.3. The rear diff on the H2 is electronically locking, arguably the best on the market. The Tahoe, not so much. Take them off road and there is no comparison.
Quit regurgitating the BS you hear from Hummer haters.
@Radi0logy: If the government is out of control, the people are to blame. Ultimately, the people vastly outnumber those running the government. They should rise up and take their country back.
@jimconsumer: The Tahoe is a short wheelbase Suburban, they are quite similar in many respects. If you were a careful reader, you would have seen the word "modified" in my post, and none of the differences you pointed out would be particularly surprising to see someone do when MODIFYING their own truck or SUV to make it a better off-roader. The H2 is competent offroad, for the subset of owners who actually ever take one farther offroad than the parking lot at the mall. That doesn't make it a better vehicle, or any more starkly different from a Tahoe than a Suburban is. It ain't no H1.

They're not a Republic and they might as well be part of China if that's how their government runs.
