@Starfury: Forget the track. Drive this to the hottest spot in town and wait for the cute high society ladies to appear :)
@downwithmonstercable: VW owns Bentley, and the VW Phaeton was actually a rebadged Audi A8, I think that's what you're thinking of.
@nataku83: Ok, I'll try to make this my last post... Suzuki and Mitsubishi, both of which were previously tied to GM and Chrysler, respectively, probably at least deserve to be mentioned as well (Isuzu's gone). There are a ton of smaller companies missing, but I'll just let that slide...
@TinkishDelight: Golf, Jetta, Beetle, A3, A4 and TT are all built on the same vehicle platform. As I mentioned above, so were the A8 and VW Phaeton. Since it's been sold in the US, Audi has been part of VW - it's less of a separate company owned by VW and more of a brand produced by them, like Toyota / Lexus, Honda / Acura, Nissan / Infiniti, etc...
@nataku83: Ah yeah A8 also. I just found it though - not actually rebadged, but same body/frame/whatever as the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur
@MostlyHarmless: I thought it was kinda funny that such a prestigious brand is now an 'indian' car. It's as if Hyundai bought BMW.
Cerberus lost their stake in Chrysler manufacturing.
Lotus is owned by Proton of Malaysia.
Audi has been a Volkswagen brand for 40 years (it was never that clear to me either).
Isuzu is still a big vehicle manufacturer, but as far as passenger vehicles in the US they are down to a couple of re-badged Chevys.
@nataku83:
Technically, Porsche owns a big chunk of VW, which owns Audi, which in turn owns Lamborghini.
Bentley, Bugatti and Skoda are also in there too.
It's a pretty complicated and confusing structure, but nothing like IKEA's or Samsung's.
@kingmanic: yes though technically GM will share ownership with Magna with Magna owning the majority share
@Cant_stop_the_rock: I can't find it referenced anywhere else but he Consumer Reports article that Chrysler has a 20% stake in Jeep.
@nytmare: Actually, Isuzu is down to nothing. They folded US sales back in January this year.
IIRC, they sold just around 7,000 vehicles for all of 2007; Ford sold that many F-series in a half a week.

I found it interesting to see that Koenisegg, who makes hypercars, is buying Saab.
I would love to take a Koenisegg CCXR for a drive around a track.
