Need A Suit? S&K Menswear Closing All 105 Stores
The decline in the "work clothing" market continues to take its toll. S&K Menswear are closing all 105 of their retail stores. The liquidation will be handled by Gordon Brothers, so don't expect any actual deals. Going-out-of-business sales started on Thursday, May 21.
Oddly, the S&K web site shows no hint of impending doom. The company had filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February, but was unable to recover. S&K gift cards will be accepted during the liquidation.

@DrHellknow: Same here for the last remaining S&K here in Fort Wayne (we used to have two, actually, up until 2007/2008).
I just don't get how Gordon Brothers gets all of these liquidation gigs? Their price manipulation can't possibly help the failing retailer, and they are damn sure no friend of the consumer.
I guess their goal is to make sure as much stock as possible remains for the final auction. This is probably where they make the most money.
I tried S&K for a suit when I got (re)married in late 2007. They wanted me into two suits and all the ties/shirts/belts/etc stuff for $700+. They really didn't want to hear that I needed price versus style even though they had a reduced price rack. Sadly I was able to purchase a Chinese made black suit jacket and matching pants at Walmart for about $75 which were adequate for the event. I wished I had the $ to spend but nothing happening as my 2nd spouse and I fully funded the wedding...
In December, 2007, I purchased a $50 S&K Gift Card for my husband. We forgot about it, but saw the S&K going out of business sign. We went in this past Saturday, picked out several items totalling $67. When we gave the gift card to the associate, she turned the computer/register around and showed us that it said the card was not valid. On the back of the card, it says "after 18 months of non-use, a monthly dormant account fee of $2.00 per month will be deducted to cover administrative costs. According to my calculations, it has only been 18 months now. I could see a $2 fee possibly but not $50 . . . . the associate showed us a sign that gave a persons name to call if any problems. They have yet to call us. What would you do?

The S&K nearest to me in Columbus, Ohio shuttered it doors and closed back in March... and here I just thought it was location!
