Comments:
@Laura Northrup: Let us know. Surely they didn't lift it from the SNL sketch, did they? I suppose it would help them get that frat boy/golfing crossover that seems to occur.
"Hey man, what kind of balls you use? Titlist?"
"No man, I have Schwetty balls!"
"WOOOO!!'
The Aquos deal is okay, but there are plenty of deals with their house brand Dynex, and a Proscan model going for under $600.
You can read more here: [tvlampsnbulbs.com]
@pecan 3.14159265: It's a decent price. Although Costco has them for the same price right now if you want to avoid BB.
I had paid $1000 for a 46" Aquos back at Christmas. I really like the TV.
@Gaambit: One of the founders, Glen Head apparently came up with the name while playing golf and drinking.
@Willow01: I think the best bet for you would be the Schwetty Balls Sack. They will protect you Schwetty Blue Balls, while letting other people see them.
@loogee: Yeah, but are Dynex and Proscan actually good? I'm interested in comparing quality and price.
@Gaambit: It would be even better, I think, if the SNL skit used them as inspiration...
WIKIPEDIA HERE I COME.
@Cafezinha: ...wait, it's foreign import Sea Monkeys? Or "sea spirit", as it's labeled?
Never seen that before. O_o
@pecan 3.14159265: I bought a Visio 42" a year ago for $900 and it's been awesome. WalMart seems to have some kind of bundle with an RCA Home Theater for even cheaper, but it's out of stock.
@BenderRodriguez: I don't know how embedding Hulu works on our comments, but here's a link to the Hulu page:
@Chris Walters: This is the beginning of an awesomely cheesy movie.
They'll grow bigger than the tank, eat my whole family, then rampage San Diego like giant aquatic Godzillas.
@TheTriStatesBestSide_GitEmSteveDave: But their cloyingly cute faces are so hard to turn down when they're asking for Sea Uzi's though. And they're so tiny. So cute!
And they promise to only attack land-based simians, never each other.
Oh. Wait. That's us!
(backing s-l-o-w-l-y away from my Sea Monkeys bowl, glancing from side-to-side nervously)
@TheTriStatesBestSide_GitEmSteveDave: NICE!
For some reason, whenever I try to go to woot.com, it attemps to save a file. I DUNNO WHY. :(
@Cafezinha: Typical.
Forriner Sea Monkeys taking the jobs of good, hard-working US-born Sea Monkeys...
@nakedscience: Wikipedia redirects it to "Delicious Dish" which is the name of the Schwetty Balls skit
:V
I've done a lot of comparison shopping on LCD TV's and while the Dynex, Proscan and Vizio models are less expensive, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to picture quality. Sharp is one of the better brands, as are Samsung, Sony and Phillips, but I would agree with Cletus when he says to go to Costco. I believe you get an automatic 2 year extended warranty in the price you pay there (I know the Consumerist writers aren't fans, but if its included in the price, I don't think you're going wrong), and you can take a look at the difference in picture between the less expensive brands and the higher end ones.
Good luck on your search!
@rpm773: Nope. Best has to be this(Caution, NSFW):[www.theonion.com]
That one STILL has me rolling, followed by a tie for second with:[www.theonion.com] and [www.theonion.com]
@AlexTNOA: Thanks, though I doubt I'm going to buy anything for a while. I'm trying to be absolutely patient, and not buying a new television until my current TV expires...which, it's been going strong for about 10 years, so I don't see it being taken to the scrap heap anytime soon.
@downwithmonstercable: You've probably already done this, but I'd read the reviews on NewEgg. Filter out the 5 and 1 "egg" reviews and look at the ones that actually discuss the pros and cons.
I look at NewEgg reviews for any piece of PC hardware I'm about to buy. People on there seem to know their stuff.
Good luck!
@pecan 3.14159265: then wait, if you can afford to. LED sets have finally hit the market (check out samsung's offerings here: [www.samsung.com] ) & you're going to see 2 things happen: a drastic drop in price of most sets on the market today & a huge increase in the technology of all 4 major tv types (LCD, plasma, DLP, & the new LED).
LEDs are in the neighborhood of $3500 right now (for ~50 inches), but i've already seen some creeping below the $3000 mark.
The difference between SD and HD is like putting on prescription eyeglasses for the first time. That's also what I look for when I'm shopping - which picture seems the most like I'm looking through a window into whatever is on the screen.
While your SD tv may be fully functional, the upgrade in experience with HD makes it worth finding a new place for it in a guest room or basement.

Great, now I'm researching how this company came to be called "Schwetty Balls" instead of posting. THANKS CHRIS
