If you own a G1 phone from T-Mobile, Google has added a special barcode scanning feature to its Product Search page just for you. Yeah, you've already got other barcode scanning apps, but this one integrates with Google's search functionality so you can scan and see product search results in Google immediately. [Phandroid]

Nice. I've tried to use an app like this on my iPhone (without the Google integration, of course), but can never get it to work. Can anyone suggest one that does work?

How soon until Walmart starts kicking people out for comparison shopping scanning???

OMG! IT'S JUST LIKE JAPAN! < /sarcasm >

Seriously, though. Japanese websites often have a scannable code you can use with a compatible cellphone to get more information via text or to purchase using your phone. [www.qrme.co.uk]

They're all over the place.

@chiieddy: If you use a 2D code scanner on your phone (which is different than a UPC code scanner), you can install this Firefox plug-in:

[addons.mozilla.org]

and convert the url of any page you're on to a 2D code that you can quickly scan with your phone.

I sometimes use this to transfer a site I'm looking at to my phone if I'm heading out.

I love my G1..no wait I love the operating system Android that it runs on. I've had a ton of cell phones. Before I left Verizon I spent a few days playing with an iphone and a blackberry and some other phones and I decided on the G1.

It does everything the iphone and blackberry do but then it does more. It does all these things better, with a slicker interface.

Knowing all that...the OS is still pretty much beta so its going to just get better and better. I dont think I can live without it now. Having it synced to everything google at all times makes everything a breeze. I snap a picture and I can upload it to picasa, I take a video and I can upload it to youtube. No extra steps...just snap and it goes.

I need to edit a MS word Doc or Excel speadsheet, no problems. Simply amazing.
