Create A Phone Stand For Free With A Business Card
Some PR person just sent us a notice about a new wallet-sized iPhone stand, which reminded us that there's an easy and free alternative, and it most probably works for a lot of other (fairly thin) media devices as well.
This Instructable—which has been around forever, but maybe you haven't seen it before—contains all you need to know. Be sure to check out the comments as well, because there's a simpler, modified version there that shows you how to make one right now at your desk with a pair of scissors, two business cards, and a pen. Other commenters point out that they've made sturdier versions with plastic gift cards or subway cards.

The best thing is you can carry it in your wallet without taking up any extra space, and the next time you want to prop up your iPhone to watch something, it'll be waiting for you.

@mrgenius: This. I was eating when I saw the snakehead thing and I had to throw the rest of my salad away. :(
@mrgenius: Exactly.
Though the repulsiveness didn't stop me from emailing the link to all my friends. Because who wants to be grossed out on their own?
@mrgenius: When I saw that snake head this morning, I actually hadn't had breakfast yet. I didn't eat for another two hours. Which is abnormal for me. THANKS, consumerist, you're causing me to starve!
@mrgenius: You can also make a nice iPhone stand out of a snake head. I'll PM you the photo-instructions.
@mrgenius: Yes, I think gross food things should be held 'til late afternoon. I was eating lunch with a recent gross food thing and almost had regurgitation issues. :D
I am the guy that sent the email but I'm not a PR Guy, I'm the designer. In answer to HonestlyTooMuch, the Crabble is available from www.seskimo.com. There are significant differences betwen the Crabble and a bit of card: durability; rigidity; rubber, non-slip feet; portait format; landscape format back to 45 degrees, and it looks nice. On the matter of price, it is one of the cheapest iPhone accessories on the market which makes it difficult to market. On the one hand postage and packing is a very significant cost for online sales, whilst the price (and therefore the margin) is very low for a retail store to stock. I have been asked to make it more expensive by using more expensive materials. But more expensive materials might make it shinier but it would be fatter and weaker. It is made of the right materials. It is cheap. And it saves a lot of time cutting out bits of cardboard.
@Eyebrows McGee (on Twitter: LPetelle): I think gross things should be in a subfolder named gross. Then people can adblock images from that folder.
I didn't find that particular photo upsetting but there have been some that made me glad I wasn't eating at the time.

Now what about the BlackBerry folks?
