@wchamilton: Yes FFXI has a monthly subscription thats roughly 10 dollars plus a dollar for every character you create.
Also dont think your going to jump in and just play like a WoW clone. FFXI is a Japanese based MMO, so its a lot of skill and grinding as well as its VERY social based and basically requires you to make friends to get tougher things done, unlike where you can basically solo to 80.
@wchamilton: It does have a monthly subscription, yes; however, that was already covered.
Another poster was right in that it's not like WoW where you just get to 80 so quickly. There is grinding, but there's a lot of storyline stuff, various missions and quests and certainly a lot of things you can do by yourself. It may not always be a breeze to get through, but it can be challenging and quite a bit of fun - you just have to be open to it. :) If, however, you decide to sign up, I would like to invite you to join the Hades server and send a /tell to "Sooraya." I would be more than glad to help you out with getting started in the game.
No hard feelings if you choose not to sign up, or join that particular server. I'm not here to cause any trouble, debate or try to push someone into doing something they don't wish to do.
@wchamilton: $12.95/month + $1 for every additional character you create.
Basically what Jim said. I just got back in to this game recently after quitting for a few years, since WoW's new expansion has pretty much put that game down the drain and dumbed it down to kindergarten level.
@D0rk: Most of the country is still on regular DVD, and a lot of these movies are still going for $7.99 used so it really is a decent deal. Stores are doing the $4.99 deal too, but I don't know if the exact same movies are on sale.
@theblackdog: If you write the word "FACE" on a drawing of a spider, do they give you money back in change?
*blink* Wow, of all the images to see on Consumerist, I would have never guess a flan from Final Fantasy would appear, let alone an FFXI version.
It should be noted that this is the 2007 collection, so it's missing one of the expansions. You'd be better off getting the 2008 collection from Fry's for $20. It actually has the most recent expansion: Wings of the Goddess.
@pecan 3.14159265: It probably has to do with where the password is coming from They are running a promotion this month where if you're on their Twitter feed, Facebook fan page, and get their E-mail, they're going to randomly give out a password on a certain day at one of the three places to say or write to the cashier to get free food. They say it's to show the power of social networking.
Last week it was the Twitter feed and the password was "Tweeter", this week it's facebook so that's probably why it is "Face".

I'm blogged from anything game related at work, so can someone tell me if FFXI has a monthly subscription and how much it is?
