DonateToConsumerist.com Launches With Much Fanfare And Fantastic Video
Donatetoconsumerist.com is the place to go to stuff some bucks in our tip jar. To entice you to give, we have created a video, featuring myself and Meg in the CU TV labs discussing her need to wear a labcoat, and one of our favorite comments of all time. It ends in violence! I can't wait till the next one!

@Yankees368: Well, they're a nonprofit now, so donations are acceptable. Also, just because they were purchased, doesn't mean the parent company has lots of extra $$ to spend on Consumerist - and anything its readers can do to help should be done.
@exploded: I would donate regardless of schwag, but I would also buy consumerist coffee mugs, hats, or t-shrits.
@pecan 3.14159265: Nah, you need this option in case they pull some shit and you need to file a charge-back. Weren't you paying attention?
:)
@WiglyWorm: They probably only paid for domain redirect, because it redirects to a donatefast.com page.
@WiglyWorm: I said debit card - I thought you couldn't do a chargeback (at least not the typical method) through a debit, that you had to call the bank.
@YoSoyHe-Man!!_GitEmSteveDave: And you should add a field for "user name" so you can have a Wall of Fame or a Post of Thanks.
@Thaddeus: I believe Meg gave out an address in the original announcement to send checks or cheques.
@SittingOnTheColbert_GitEmSteveDave: Yay. According to Ben and Meg, I, their friend, have just rocked their world!
@pkoutoul: It would be nice to at least get a little "I Donated!" emblem next to my name. That would keep the fact that donations are possible in front of new readers, who might not otherwise know.
@exploded: A shirt, hat, or something would be great to let people know you're not taking any crap from customer service. A labcoat could be nice too. Someone may donate extra for Meg's labcoat.
@exploded: That's a good idea too. Lots of forums do that sort of thing.
I still want a Meg's mug mug though. Just sayin'...
Ahh...but, unlike most non-profits, consumer union has a revenue model and pays its chief executive about 3 times the average for pay for a non-profit CEO.
@Ben Popken:
Don't get me wrong - I appreciate the work that this site does (especially you) - I just think that CU has chosen a peculiar course by buying a for-profit blog, replacing all ads with its own and then asking its users to donate money.
@joos:
If it keeps Consumerist running and off the chopping block it is worth it. It is a valuable service that we all use.
If you don't want to donate then don't. I somehow doubt that anyone working on this site is seeing any of those high salaries.
@pecan 3.14159265: Despite the cheapness of them he was really questioning why spend money on another domain name. Not hosting too.
@pkoutoul: Oh, better yet: A mug with a picture of Meg holding the mug, so it's Meg's Mug's Mug Mug.

Grr the video doesnt play for some reason. I guess its blocked by the filters here. Would have been a great start to the day, watching that video. If you know what I mean.
