@lastingsmilledge: Yes. Yes it does. Consumerist doesn't say NO credit cards, they say if you can use it responsibly, then do so. If it's advantageous, then take advantage. But recognize and understand when to say "stop".
I just tried for the camera special, too. When I get to my cart, it gives me the balance due in points rather than dollars...and the points I need add up to $499, not the $317 they are advertising. I can't call Sony now because I'm at work...damn, I was excited about getting my first dSLR...by the way, anyone else notice that on the dealnews site, they advertise the A100, but when you get to Sony's site, it's the A200?
@hank18: That's exactly what I got. The CSR on the phone was familiar with the issue and assured me that within 24 hours it would be fixed and would only charge me 317,000 points instead of 499,000.
@lastingsmilledge: I will gladly take on a new credit card at this point because I fear that other cards are being cancelled or reduced. Adding a new card to my portfolio reduces my debt to credit limit ratio. Just because I have it doesn't mean I have to use it.
@pkoutoul: So did you actually buy the 49,000 points or are you waiting until tomorrow to buy the adjusted 31,700?
@pkoutoul: Got it! Thanks for the info! Saved me from making a call later today. I really want this camera!
@pkoutoul: I know they said to wait 24 hours, but I keep checking every few minutes to see if it's been corrected. :) I can't help it...
@pkoutoul: Err... the body of the camera doesn't matter half as much as the lens you affix to it. if you were going to buy a Rebel for Canon lenses, don't suddenly buy the Sony. I know there are a million people out there who think DSLR = awesomesauce photos all the time, and those same million people use a single lens on automode all the time and are better off with a point and shoot. :/
@CuriousO: You should try now. A little after noon today (eastern time) it had been corrected. I ordered mine!
I just ordered this as well. I wasn't crazy about Sony calling them 'points' instead of dollars, but as long as I charge $3000 to the card in 6 months, they reward me with an extra $200, bringing the total camera cost to $16.50!!!
(note to the Consumerist gods: I will pay off the full balance at the end of each month, please don't smite me with lighting bolts and rebuke!)
@fatetwister64: i'd avoid it. newegg doesn't seem to give simpletech very good reviews, and if you must get a simpletech, get [www.newegg.com] itat least has 2 drives inside the enclosure (instead of 1) so if (when) the drives fail, you've only lost half your data. and that drive is only $10 more (plus shipping)
100 isn't an OMG MUST BUY NOW price, so i'd wait a bit and find a deal on something that's rated better than 2 eggs (out of 5)
I jumped on the camera deal over the weekend (specifically, 6/22 evening) and got the confirmation email that the camera will be charged to my cc when it ships. It's now 3 days later (6/25) and never got an email saying it shipped like the first email said I would.
Did anyone get any follow up emails saying the camera shipped? Has anyone received the camera already?
I can't find an order status option anywhere and am a little worried.

I was interested int he fondue maker, but I read the reviews, and apparently you have to pre-melt the chocolate, which is why I wanted this in the first place.
