Shotguns are great for close-order work, but you should have a rifle for longer range targets and for when the canned food runs out. Also - don't forget a supply of ammo!
I forgot how much I loved those movies as a kid.
@HiPwr: purchase some sabot rounds. Shotguns are your best all around defense/survival weapon. Great for home defense as the chances of traveling through walls and killing someone on the other side are lower than with a standard firearm. Also racking a shotgun at the top of the stairs tends to make the crook downstairs think about his options again.

@HiPwr: Def not. Thats why I stocked myself with 800rnds of Milsurp .308, 500 rnds of 45ACP, back before the ammo crunch REALLY hit in January.

@Saboth: I was talking about ammo, #1. #2, you showed your hand too early. #3, gun laws limiting quantity/type ONLY a/effect legal gun owners. Some current gun owners are stockpiling ammo in the off chance that it is either made harder to get/taxed more.

Saw this coming. Bought new rifles and shotguns last year.
Do not invest in canned food. In fact, avoid any canned foods at all costs. They contain horrible chemical/component called phtalates. How do manufacturers get away with this?!?!
@jodark: Screw that. .22 caliber weapons are where it is at. Most guns are easy to operate and ammo is CHEAP!
