Inventor Of World Wide Web Becomes Online Fraud Victim

8139 views

The man who invented the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has fallen prey to online fraud. It's always a sad day when you're betrayed by your own creation. Why, just the other day my best LEGO warrior ran away to join a DUPLOS commune. They live in a big circle, take what they need, and contribute their fair share of time in the community internet cafe running advance-fee fraud scams. Duplicity, built brick by interlocking brick.

Contrary to popular belief, the Web is not the Internet. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, not the Internet. ;)

Lego's rock

@ LegoMan322: What about Lego's rock? Kind of an incomplete sentence. Obviously the rock is something important to the logo...

user-pic

@Cocoa Vanilla: But both the World Wide Web and the internet are trucks, so all is cool, right?

user-pic

Wait, when did Al Gore change his name?

user-pic

In other news, the guy who invented internet porn just had his mother walk in on him....

user-pic

@Cocoa Vanilla: Correct. The inventor of the Internet would be Al Gore.

user-pic

@Cocoa Vanilla: He built the tubes?

user-pic

@bluewyvern: I thought he invented the environment?

user-pic

What is this "intrawebs" you speak of?

user-pic

@ howie_in_az: Al Gore invented both. He's trying to obtain a patent for the "Environet" right now.

user-pic

@jake7294: Lego's Rock was a great show. The Doozers were my favorite.

user-pic

@howie_in_az: No, he just invented a way to profit off of people too lazy to change their habits.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go buy some carbon offsets, drive my SUV to the supermarket, and buy a ton of TV dinners.

The best part of internet scams is that even a small amount of information and diligence usually protects you. There should be some sort of scam-based Darwin award for people who fall for them.

user-pic

I'm surprised so many keep repeating this "Al Gore said he invented the Internet" considering "The Google" is available and can find the information for you.

For those who can't use The Google, here's an article
[www.snopes.com]

@chris_d: Well, I think they're playing on the joke, given the context.

However, I think even his actual statement was absurd (and I'm an Al Gore fan), and I don't agree with the Snopeses on their completely exculpatory reading.

@failurate:
No the internet is a series of tubes, the world wide web is a series of webs

user-pic

The Google, bubie are you online now. I am going to the yahoo and run your name to check.

user-pic

My best Latin: Caveat Emptor on the internets!

user-pic

How did I know that the ignorant conservative "al gore claimed he invented the internet" crap would pop up. Gotta love people who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

And, by the way, Gore DID do more than ANYONE else in government to encourage the research that led to what we now know as the internet.

user-pic

@bluewyvern: Incorrect. Gore's nerd contributions include early promotion of such direction as a Congressman. He was also responsible for introducing the "High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991" to Congress as a Senator.

The guy's made quite a few contributions to actively promote what has become the internet and WWW. It's weird how so many people benefiting from this technology are so quick to deride him.

user-pic

@xredgambit: And the Bridge to Nowhere is a series of earmarks!

user-pic

@chris_d: I haven't paid my "The Google" bill, so they canceled my service. :(

Stuck with using The Yahoos for now.

user-pic

@ThatIdiotJeffrey_GitEmSteveDave: Oh gee thanks, now I will have this stuck in my head for the rest of the week...

@invisiblenemies: It is a series of "Tubes" that lead to a really big dump truck.

Wow, close to the 20th anniversary he thought up the idea..
