Shotguns are great for close-order work, but you should have a rifle for longer range targets and for when the canned food runs out. Also – don’t forget a supply of ammo!
@HiPwr: purchase some sabot rounds. Shotguns are your best all around defense/survival weapon. Great for home defense as the chances of traveling through walls and killing someone on the other side are lower than with a standard firearm. Also racking a shotgun at the top of the stairs tends to make the crook downstairs think about his options again.

Saw this coming. Bought new rifles and shotguns last year.
Do not invest in canned food. In fact, avoid any canned foods at all costs. They contain horrible chemical/component called phtalates. How do manufacturers get away with this?!?!
