Woot! Replaces Shirt Stolen By The U.S. Post Office

6799 views

Two weeks ago I wrote that Woot! hadn't replaced a shirt stolen by the U.S. Post Office. Well, I was wrong. Unbeknownst to me, Woot! shipped out a brand new replacement shirt, just as I had requested.

They put the new shirt in the mail without mentioning it to me, and I hadn't received it at the time I posted. Thanks, Woot!, for fixing everything! Let's all hope that the U.S. Postal employee who stole the original shipment falls into a letter sorter.

Woot is the best. Thy shipped me four pairs of Lock-Jaw pliers when I only ordered two. They sent an email stating that it was an "accident" and to keep the extra pliers. This happened to everyone who ordered though.

I still think that we shouldn't place all the blame on the USPS as Woot! sends things SmartPost, which means they pass through FedEx's hands as well. I agree someone took it, I'm just saying that putting the onus only on the USPS isn't right.

STOP STEALING MY CONSUMERIST STORIES

I got the "Yay! It's Broccoli!" shirt because I just dropped about $3500 to make my cat, Broccoli, not die. The postal service promptly ate my shirt, and Woot replaced it for me no questions asked.

They should dispense with the fun-looking bag and go with something neutral. That thing just screams, "COOL STEALABLE STUFF INSIDE!"

I feel for the guy though; a lot of people in my area have quit using Netflix for just this reason.

@SWM,30-iso-SWF_GitEmSteveDave:

They usually hand it off to USPS for the last leg of the journey. That's what happened in my case when my shirt got lost by USPS.

Yes, as far as the packaging goes. Is it actually USPS employees stealing the items though, or are the things being stolen out of mailboxes?

Hey, it wouldn't be cool if somebody fell into the letter sorters... I work for the company that makes them. I can tell you that we build those sorters to take a lot of abuse... But dropping a human being in there would do much more damage to the sorter than the person.

However there is a solution... While our letter sorters would likely be destroyed, our flats sorters could certainly handle it...

Woot is the greatest. I didn't get my Bacon Salt because of the Smartpost, but Woot refunded me as soon as I made it known to them. Too bad I don't have more money to spend on Woot.

@zibby: When I lived in a women's dorm, we had this problem with Victoria's Secret packages. They had to be kept locked up and you could only get them from the dorm rector, because people would steal them if they were distributed the usual way, in a big pile near the mailboxes!

user-pic

@MrPibbistheGreatestSodaEver: apparently you aren't missing much... the people i know who got it said that it was the grossest thing ever.

user-pic

@Eyebrows McGee: You'd think new/unused stuff from VS wouldn't be the target in a college enviro. I must say I'm surprised.

user-pic

@ferris209: Ya I got them too. Spread the gift!

user-pic

@55378008_GitEmSteveDave: It's expensive stuff, and everyone likes to look sexy for teh big datez! (Remember, WOMEN'S dorm. :) I think the new stuff has more appeal in that case!)

I do have to blame the USPS. I sent out a webcam to a friend, Baltimore to Philadelphia.

Not only did they not deliver it the next day, they delivered it the day after to the WRONG address. I gave up, spent 4x more to UPS it over (who didn't even ring the doorbell as requested, and friend had to ambush the driver to get the package).

user-pic

@R3PUBLIC0N: Ugh, hate that shirt, and not just cuz of the copyright issues.

user-pic

@Eyebrows McGee: OK, I see your point in that case.

On a side note, I never got the whole VS thing. I think a t-shirt and sweat pants/lounge pants/shorts are DAMN sexy compared to some of those lacy things.

user-pic

@root4root: At least in this case, it was definitely gone before it reached the poster's mailbox. If I remember right from the original story, they received a ripped open Woot bag with one of those little labels USPS puts on things damaged or whatever during shipping.

@R3PUBLIC0N:

fedex scans things at every station and every vehicle, if it went missing with fedex they would've been able to ask the last person who touched it.

USPS, not so much.

Right after the missing woot shirt story, I wrote to the consumerist to share my own positive woot experience. In short, something was lost in the mail and w00t refunded my purchase without a second thought.

I'm glad to see some positive woot information coming from the consumerist.

Woot is awesome. I had to return a refurb Sansa player to them. They sent a new one out that day with a free UPS return label for the broken one.

user-pic

I've had only good experiences with Woot and its customer service. No disappointments, ever. Smartpost...uh...not so much.

user-pic

I love woot! Once I ordered an mp3 player that started messing up and they gave us a full refund. I later bought a better one.

I've bought several shirts from shirt woot and love them all! Especially my Boston Tea Party shirt!

user-pic

@Gstein: meh the lip balm is kinda gross, but everything else is golden!

user-pic

Another Woot happiness...I had pair refurb sansas from before christmas. Volume up button on one did not work. Last week sent me a replacement of the same color without asking me to return the broken one. They're super! I had no expectations they could help at this point, so long after the original order. I saved them for gifts, then went to set up up post new years and discovered the problem.

I hate Smartpost with a passion. Woot! is an excellent company with rockin' customer service but Smartpost just isn't smart. It takes forever and this isn't the first incident with the Post Office "losing" someone's package. My husband ordered webcams from Woot! and didn't get them, didnt' get them, didn't get them. By the time he followed up (partially his fault for taking long but he was having health issues) it was supposedly dropped to the local Post Office a couple weeks before. Lo and behold they didn't know where it was and FedEx records indicate it was at the Post Office. So, Woot! refunded the money. Sadly, though no cheapo HD webcams to be had.
