This is important:
Are Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties safe as well?

"Mike was a wierd kid, but his parents humored him and let him wear whatever he wanted."

This news will make my husband happy.... Now if I could just figure out if Eddy's peanut butter & fudge ice cream is fine then I'll have some happy spawnlings as well.

And at $5.00 for their 1.5 size, yeah, I'm not throwing it out until I'm sure.

user-pic

I wouldn't care. Those things are so damn good I'd sell my freakin' soul if they asked - in other words, a little bloody stool seems a small price to pay.

user-pic

@Canino: Too bad they don't do Comment of the Day over here, because that's it.

user-pic

@darkrose: Yes, both Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers have statements on their websites stating that their peanut butter is safe.

user-pic

Peanut Butter Patties > Do-Si-Dos

user-pic

@Lynn12:

Why is everyone talking about throwing these things out? If it is found to possibly be tainted then take it back to the store for a refund or exchange.

user-pic

@calquist: Peanut Butter Patties=Tagalongs & Peanut Butter Sandwich=Do-si-dos

user-pic

I wish I knew how to embed a photo in comments. Anyone?

And I agree with Calquist: Peanut Butter Patties own all.

Tagalongs > Do-si-dos

@calquist:

I just realized we left the same comment!

user-pic

They are safe because they were produced and boxed in the 50's Little known fact - not a single girl scout cookie has been manufactured in over 50 years!

user-pic

"Are your Girl Scout cookies made from real Girl Scouts?"

user-pic

@suburbancowboy:

So what would be a girl scout substitute?...Brownies?

user-pic

@Oranges w/ Cheese: It's about time someone said that.

user-pic

@Oranges w/ Cheese:
You couldn't be more wrong. Samoas > all other GSCs.

user-pic

@Slow2Whine: Reminds me of a joke my husband used to tell (back in high school when he was a Boy Scout and I was a Girl Scout).. "What's blue and comes in brownies? Cub Scouts."

user-pic

Who buys Samoas anymore? Everybody knows you're safe if you eat Thin Mints. I'm sorry, I don't mean to blame the OP but if you're not going to bother to research your Girl Scout Cookies, like I do, you're going to end up with salmonella.

@BlackBirdTA: Last year someone (Edy's? Blue Bell?) released limited-edition Thin Mint ice cream. It. Was. To. Die. For.

This whole Peanut Butter thing is what makes me glad I don't eat Peanut Butter due to my wife's allergies! Can't get sick from a food you don't eat!

I guess my problem with GS is that they're supposed to promote civic leadership in girls, and yet their website about cookies is so disingenuous and misleading.

I would think GS would be one of the first organizations to call BS on the FDA's rules for trans fats, considering that if you label your food "Trans Fat Free," and yet it still contains partially hydrogenated oils, than a consumer can easily exceed the daily recommended intake of trans fats by eating just 5 servings of it, and have no idea that they're ingesting damaging amounts.

Also considering that the GS has a huge presence in the Ivory Coast, you would think their American sisters would be more concerned with the fact that 50% of their chocolate comes from child slave labor, the majority of which is in the Ivory Coast. Instead, the GS press release misdirections attention to the CMA, which admits that they have no idea where their chocolate comes from because they don't buy from the farms directly, but from middle men. The only way to ensure your chocolate doesn't come from child slave labor is to buy from a free trade farm directly. If Ben and Jerry's can do it, GS can too.

Actually, if the GS website were just more honest, and actually practiced the civic leadership they preach, I wouldn't have a problem with them using questionable ingredients.

@Canino:

Priceless!!! :D

That looks a lot like my old Junior Girl Scout uniform (c. 1970s). I think that one is older, though. Except we never wore the tie.

user-pic

You used eponymous incorrectly.

Eponymous refers to the person, not the object. The eponymous person is the person the object is named after.

Thus the eponymous ones are the Girl Scouts and the items so named are the Girl Scout Cookies.

Good usage of the word would be to identify a generic person with the object to demonstrate a connection that is not otherwise obvious.

See this hypothetical usage:
In this hypothetical world we find the world famous "Smith Hotel." There are hundreds of locations and the Smith Hotel employs hundreds of people around the world whose last name also happens to be Smith, but just one of those folks owns the company in addition to working as an employee.

I introduce you to an otherwise plain-looking mid-level manager in the D.C. location and indicate to you, Consumerist, that this is the eponymous Robert Smith.

Result: You form the connection through the use of the word eponymous that he owns the company and is the person for which the company is named.

Compare this with your usage of "eponymous wares." The Girl Scouts were already identified as the owners, and the possessive apostrophe tells you that it is their wares. The only thing that you might possibly gain is guessing that their wares are also called "Girl Scout" something. There isn't a complete picture of what their wares are. Your use of eponymous functions only to make the author seem more intelligent.

P.S. This isn't a fast-and-loose grammar issue (where there could be a style debate); this is just not knowing what the word "eponymous" means.

@shepd:
Aw man, thank you.

Me (far right) and my high school Girl Scout troop peeps in 1968! Dig the uniform.

user-pic

Thank merciful Christ. I thought I was going to have to end myself.

user-pic

Yes! I no longer am stocking the bomb shelter, for the recall of my peanut butter patties was surely the sign of the apocalypse.

As a former girl scout I feel a moral obligation to eat as many of these as possible, and I have no difficulty accomplishing that, at all.

user-pic

I'm glad Samoas, aka crack cookies, are not affected! I can put the hurt on a box of those real quick!

user-pic

I would have had to hurt somebody if my PB Patties were messed with. I'm glad to know they're safe.

Now if I hear the Reeses people making noise about this, I'm just going to end it all and go jump in a lake...

user-pic

I've already sold 45 boxes of GSCs on behalf of a cute little 8 year old. Soooo glad the PB cookies are safe!
