Remember the father and son team who cut in line at Walmart, then threatened an off-duty police officer with bodily harm, then were arrested? They've been charged with battery, and the off-duty cop has been cleared. A police investigator said, "The [Walmart] video supports [Officer] Kirby's version of what happened." [Indy Star] (Thanks to David!)
Attention, Walmart shoppers! This ad is for you! Woo hoo!

This guy merely threatens a police officer and gets arrested.
This asshole cop shoves a 70-year-old man and gets off without a slap on the wrist.
Where the fuck is the "fair and impartial" justice? Hell just a couple weeks ago I got a ticket for my car losing control on an icy road that the cops admitted was inherently dangerous. I should add this was my first offense EVER. Cops are really on my short list right now.
"Attorney Bradley Mohler of Frankfort, who represents the Pluhars, said he found it hard to believe Pluhar Sr. would threaten anyone, given that he is a retired banking executive and active in community service."
Bwahahaha. I get that the guy's attorney has to say something, but "banking executive" is not the opposite of "asshole".
@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: The road may have been inherently dangerous, but as the driver, you are responsible to maintain control of your vehicle. If doing 30 makes it hard to control, you drop to 25...20...whatever level is appropriate for conditions.
I once had a ticket for 'driving too fast for the conditions', mostly because after I hit a guard rail, my car couldn't drive off on its own. How did the police officer catch you? Were you sliding like crazy in front of him? Did you hit something?
Hay there are jerks everywhere. Not all cops are jerks and not all wallmart customers are jerks even if shopping there can turn you into one. The cop who shoved that 70 year old greeter is a jerk just like the two line breakers. t@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!:
@catskyfire: I'd have to agree. As a driver, you ultimately made a decision to venture out that day, knowing full well that the conditions were bad. You're also an incredibly dangerous threat to others if you're not in control.
Cops + 1
@BlackMage is doing the Time Warp agaaaaaaain!!!: I have to third. I've never heard of anyone hydroplaning at 15 mph(not saying it couldn;t happen, just that the chances drop WAY low). When the weather gets bad, I throw my hazards on, decrease speed, and stay in the slow lane. I've seen idiots try to pass me only to start to go out of control, and they drop down to the same speed as me. There's a reason they have sections in the drivers manual about how to adjust your following distance and speed in bad weather.
And everyone remember. Four wheel drive is NOT four wheel brake. According to the laws of physics, it still takes you twice as far to stop as me if you weigh twice as much as me even if you have four wheel drive.
@qwerty017: So as long as you assault/kill a cop off duty, you shouldn't get any extra penalty? I bet someone who wants to get revenge would love that rule.
DISCLOSURE:Son of a 30 year police veteran.
@55378008_GitEmSteveDave: Bullshit.
DISCLOSURE: Someone whose life is every bit as valuable as a cop's.
@qwerty017: you certainly have a point, but it's important to note that different states have different laws with respect to an officer's responsibilities when they're not on duty.
to be honest, i'm not even sure of the law in my own state, but i believe that officers are charged with responding to an emergency even when they're off-duty. if indiana has an "always on" policy, then there most certainly should be a charge of threatening an officer since the cop identified himself as such.
I seem to remember Comcast running a news piece defending the Pluhars. [www.comcast.net]
Do I detect a retraction coming Comcast? How about retracting your whole service dept. at the same time?
@speedwell, avatar of snark: I agree. Ever notice that the fuzz are more likely to go after a cop killer than your average killer. I know Joe Friday claims they are more dangerous but I don't buy it.
I hope the cop gets sued for ... oh wait never mind.
Agree with the piglets on this one. If you can't control your car, no matter what the conditions, you don't need to be driving. I would have taken your license, first offense or not.
Its a follow-up to a previous story, which was and is news, making this information that people could appreciate.
@speedwell, avatar of snark: True, it's just as valuable, but you don't have as many people who have an ax to grind as a police officer might. So if they could just wait till he goes off shift and attack him, and get no more of a sentence, you would probably have a rise in police officer attacks.
@battra92: They are more likely just like you would be more likely to do something if it affected a family member. Many police officers are close just like fire fighters, soldiers, etc... are, and emotion comes into then.

@55378008_GitEmSteveDave: Hey Jerkface son of Donut-Eater, I had an abusive husband when I was in my early 20s who used to hold a gun to my head after he had a few beers and say that if I ever left him or told anyone how I was treated, he'd... and then he'd *click* the hammer on an empty chamber. I'm not sure if all the chambers were empty.
I did wind up leaving him. Would your daddy's esteemed colleagues have argued for extra time if he had killed me, or would they be too busy beating up their own old ladies to think it was anything but what I deserved?

Uhhh...don't break in line. How is this newsworthy?
