Time Warner Cable sucks, I have tried in two separate apartments to get service, and both times I got hit with the same issue. The problem is I called to get service and they said that my particular apartment is not in the system so they have to come down and actually see if my apartment exists. I live on the eighth floor, and they have all seven other floors of the building, so I have no idea why they have to come and look. Plus they said it could take from 4 to 6 weeks for them to come and check. If there were any other options I would use them immediately, but FIOS isn't in my area. And Speakeasy DSL is two to three times more expensive for equivalent speeds.
The funny/horrible thing is this same thing happened to me in my last apartment, and I just forgone getting cable because my landlord let me use his internet connection. But, in this new place I do not have that option.
I know people have complained about Cablevision, but, my mom has had Cablevision for twenty years, and she has never experienced the incompetence that is TWC.
If anyone knows any alternatives, I would like to know, because I am loathe to give these idiots any money.
The TWC lament is soooo true. In Dallas, TX, we have been on the TWC Internet/Phone/Cable package for a year at $205/mth. The Internet is down anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hrs per day. Of course, when the Internet is down, the phone is down. Even when the phone is up, very often we can hear you but you could not hear us. As for the TV!!! Glitchy is the only word to describe it!! I am still looking for alternatives.
@CarrollFelange: Hey, I lived in Dallas, and we had DishTV, which we loved. Their HD offerings are much better and the quality of the HD picture is better, too. Yes, you do sometimes lose your signal when there's a really bad storm, but it's better than all the many, many more times in NY that we would lose TW cable for...no reason. (If you're interested, I could dig up my Dish installer's name--he was really good.)
Have you tried Verizon for phone/internet? We had Roadrunner here in NY for six months and the speeds were, literally, a third of what they advertised and the Internet went out two or three times a week. We got Verizon DSL and while it is also only a third of the speed of Roadrunner, we're paying $10 less a month and it hasn't gone out once in three months. And it's fast enough, frankly.
I just want broadband connectivity. Which change would you recommend. #1 - Should I call TWC customer service and ask to delete all service but broadband so I can continue with internet and email via earthlink ? #2 - Or cancel ALL service with TWC ? Then request TWC Roadrunner service since Verizon ( authentic ) FIOS is not installed. #3 - Go with Verizon ( highbrid ) FIOS which uses TWC conductors ? Thank You

I found the best tactic for dealing with Time Warner customer care was to cancel my service and turn in my equipment. Don't get me wrong: I loves me some telebision, but after twenty years as a TWC customer, I finally had enough. And you know what? I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. Broadcast, teh interwebs, Apple TV, Netflix: I still don't have to crack a book!
If FIOS or DishTV becomes available, I'll sign up--my DishTV in Dallas was awesome, and I've heard great things about FIOS (mostly from my husband who cries in frustration whenever he sees their ads). But Time Warner? You may feel free to kiss my white ass! You're welcome!
