Orbitz: Act Fast, This Promotion Expired Four Days Ago!

3128 views

Orbitz sent out an "email exclusive" advertising 20% off select hotel rooms, which might have been a decent deal if hadn't expired four days before the email was sent.

Tipster Melinda writes:

I'm not sure if a swath of people were sent this expired offer today, but I found it pretty irritating. The e-mail offers a discount code for 20% off hotels. Since I'm planning a trip, I tried to use it and found that it had expired...four days ago. WTF? I should have read the offer details, but who expects to be sent an e-mail on Jan 22 with an offer that expired Jan 18?

Thankfully Orbitz was quick to apologize and extend the promotion. Following the link in the email brings you to a page that now reads:

Sorry for sending you an expired promotion code! Please use promo code EMHOTEL20 to redeem 20% off your next hotel purchase."

Assuming it hasn't already expired, the new deal is expected to run through January 28.

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

All you need to do is enable Gmail Custom Time feature to redeem the promotion code.

Probably someone used an old promotion text as a template and forgot to change the date.

That used to happen to me occasionally. *blushes*

This happens all the time to me with postal-mail coupons and promotions. Many times I'll get coupons to Kohls or something, but when I receive it in the mail its already past the expiration date or on the very day the coupon expires. I'm not sure if its caused by Kohls or the post-office's poor judgment of time.

@PittDragon: And the Tardis is still stuck in another dimension.

@Ian Thomas Brooks: With the economy as bad as it is right now many hotels are offering 15-20% off without having to book through wholesalers like Orbitz. You will usually have to prepay a portion of the stay.

The hotel chain I work for is participating in a promotion like this now called "Only One Way". If you're looking to travel soon give Fairmont Hotels and Resorts a call and ask for the promotion by name. It's not always available depending on how many rooms are left but it never hurts to ask. If you don't mind prepaying the entire stay there's also a promotion called "Fairmont Savers" or "Advance purchase" that's roughly 30% off. That one is usually available 21 days in advance or so.

Call 1 800 441 1414. If you want to check it out.

@OwenCatherwood: Technically, isn't it always stuck in another dimension? ;p
