Nominate Consumerist For 2009 Bloggies
Nominations are open for the 2009 Bloggies. Gosh darnit, I think Consumerist deserves consideration for some of these categories. Despite severe staff cutbacks in the 4th quarter, we kicked some serious ass. And now, thanks to Consumers Union buying us, we're back and better than ever. If you agree, put our name in over here.
(Yes, these are different (and more prestigious) than the one we told you about yesterday).

An embarrassment of well-deserved riches.
I'm generally shying away from the Nick Denton slamming, but considering TWO noms in as many days, I hope he's ruefully shaking his head at his short-sightedness in attempting to strangle his oh-so-precocious Consumerist baby in its crib these recent months. (But a solid Toldja! on the part of the savvy CU people who swooped in and scooped up Consumerist!)
Take your bows, people!
@Trai_Dep: Hey, people, any suggestions on which category? Think it'd be smarter to focus on one or two, right?
@discounteggroll: Yeah, I mean, I know everyone's going widescreen these days but sheesh. Give us a break.
@discounteggroll: I showed that to a User-Centered Design guy here at my office and he about shit himself.
@deadandy: I actually rather enjoyed it. Of course, had my scroller button not intuitively worked with the side-scroll design, I'd probably be signing a different tune. :)
I'm going to vote for Consumerist in as many categories as possible, as long as they apply. I'm very, very happy that they are with Consumers Union now, it seems like a perfect fit. The commenting and article types at the other Gawker blogs are trying for the huge hits now in a scandalous way, and Consumerist has and continues to keep its integrity high.
@discounteggroll: Yeah, wtf? I scrolled for like 2 minutes. Also, there was no "best cat featured in a Weblog" slot for me to plug Captain Duvel Moneycat!
The Truth About the Bloggies: They hold NO Value, NO Credibility.
I was selected as a panelist (final judge) for the Bloggies. I was presented with a list of about 20 nominees from each category. However, most of these nominees were not real Blogs or Weblogs. There were some junk websites, retail websites, and research websites (like TripAdvisor!) mixed in.
I contacted the Organizer of the Bloggies, Nikolai Nolan, to report that these non-Weblogs were included in the final selection list. His response? "I'm aware of this, but there are too many nominees to verify them all. "
So folks, don't get too excited about being nominated, or excluded from the nominations. If you have a great Weblog but were not included in the final selection -- it could be because your category was inundated with false or unqualified websites. And the organizer was too busy/lazy to review the list and remove any unqualified nominees.

I just saw that the winners get a whopping $20.09! nonetheless, I went ahead and voted for you. =D
