No More Free FICO Scores For WaMu Customers After March 9

5865 views

It looks like after March 1, 2009 quondam Washington Mutual cum Chase customers won't be able to get their FICO scores for free anymore through their bank. Those people in the picture look pretty excited about yet another WaMu feature being taken away. Woohoo, indeed. [Chase] (Thanks to Luke!)

Their information wasn't ever any more helpful than what I can already get on Credit Karma...

user-pic

Man, I'm glad I pulled all my savings from that bank about two days before they imploded. My new credit union is the BEST movie I ever made.

user-pic

I get some sort of score through my credit card with WaMu, although I did just get a notice from Chase saying some things would be changing. I thought I looked over it fairly carefully, but I may look again to see if this will change as well. I don't bank with them; just have a credit card.

user-pic

Is it legitimate? I am afraid that if I give them my SSN and DOB that someone on the other side of the world is suddenly using my name to get credit.

user-pic

@chemmy: Is it legitimate? I am afraid that if I give them my SSN and DOB that someone on the other side of the world is suddenly using my name to get credit.

user-pic

Oh well. It was a good service while it lasted. That noted, WaMu dropped me first b/c I didn't have enough debt with them.

user-pic

@El_Fez: Perhaps, but still I'll have to wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray.

user-pic

heh. Chase just closed my WaMu card with no explaination. The FICO thing sure was nice while it lasted.

user-pic

I've been using this feature for at least 3 years. Thanks Chase! Glad I don't have a balance generating money for you!

user-pic

@ El_Fez

Is it released yet?

user-pic

i like this feature. its kind of the only reason i kept my wamu card open. the article does say they are evaluating ways to let us keep the feature. And you can also check it for free with the chase credit builder. i dont know what that is though.

user-pic

maybe that is why it hasn't updated since dec 08 yet. i'm glad i closed my wamu cc account anyhow. 3500 finally paid off this month :)

user-pic

Wow guess its time to pay this card off and move on.

user-pic

I don't see any place to download old statements. Anyone else?

user-pic

Meh, they won't be around long anyway.

user-pic

@Justin Barbieri: no, you can check it for a FEE. I'm gonna miss my Wamu Credit card account...time to find something else.

user-pic

guess I need to pay it off ASAP. So not going to happen. I'll keep it around, just won't use the card anymore as I steadily pay it off. *sigh* I liked the FICO score tracking, it was convenient.

user-pic

No activity on my card since August. This card was hanging on by a FICO thread. Chase just cut it.

They gave surprisingly little resistance to closing the account. I guess that's a good thing?

PS. You can only order statements in the mail. I ordered them and scanned them. Nice waste of paper...

user-pic

lol this is one of the only reasons I had my WAMU account. Next I'll get a message saying "Although WAMU qualified you as an appreciated long time customer and offered you 1% cash back on all your transactions, we've now rescinded that and increased your interest rate."

"But... you can lower your interest rate by signing up for an additional Chase We-fawkin-took-over-your-bank-haha-mofo card with a small annual fee!"

Freakin shmucks. I do like havin a gazillion ATM locations with Chase and they have a cool ATM system (the interface) but come on guys... taking away features WAMU customers used? What's the point, lose all of the customers you inherited? Ejits...

user-pic

oh I should add that this morning, when I saw the message saying "Your card will soon be accessed through Chase Online!" with a link, I clicked through only to get an error on Chase's website saying this page didn't exist L-O-freakin-L!

user-pic

How often do you *really* need to know your FICO score? I mean, not that a reduction in features is something I'd be happy about, but I'd only check it myself if I were planning a major purchase. Most of the time, I'd rather make sound financial decisions because they're smart things to do, not make my decisions based on what will add or subtract a few points from that number.

I'll give Chase a little credit that they at least acknowledged the issue and reminded people to check it before the last day it'd be available, rather than hoping nobody would notice it was gone.

All in all, not ideal, but I've gone my whole life without having constant access to my FICO score and I feel pretty okay about that still.

user-pic

@katiat325: lol, good looking out. i swear that said free. hah

user-pic

@puffyshirt:

I just paid off my last $2500 to WaMu too. I liked taking advantage of their 0% balance transfers. I was going to keep the card just for the FICO score... I guess now I'll be closing my account.

user-pic

Where or who do you talk to about this?

user-pic

@Repique: It's fun to watch it go up, if nothing else. I used to have a sub-600 FICO score and I'm happy with myself whenever I see it bump up 10 points or so every month.

user-pic

@projoe1979: They're not available online. You have to order them.

user-pic

Chase sent me a new terms & conditions pamphlet the other day for my old WaMu card. Aside from the jacking up of my APR (gee, thanks), there was a lovely little gem that stated that Wamu cardholders are not allowed to do balance transfers to any other type of Chase card.

Nice.

user-pic

@nikkimarie918: Yep, I have used it without any problems. However, it only is the score from one of the bureaus (I don't remember which one). So therefore it could be off by a bit.

user-pic

Suddenly this picture is even more fitting:

user-pic

Hi Chase,

Thanks for shitting all over my day. I'm so canceling my account.

xoxo,
Me

user-pic

@lawnmowerdeth: me too - I don't even know what I used the card for, but I've only kept it open to check my score. Actually, I think this used to be a Providian card, then they got eaten by WaMu, now they are getting eaten by Chase.... When will it end?

user-pic

I can't help but think that WaMu's decision to offer what could be a profit generator for the bank for free may have been a tiny reason for their downfall.

user-pic

@hovy: That second part is pretty standard. Citi prevents it as well. It's usually because if Chase or Citi has a promotion like "0% interest on balance transfers", you can just keep rotating the balance and never pay any interest. I've never seen a bank that actually allows you to transfer your balance to another card from the same bank.

user-pic

@PSUSkier: Transunion IIRC.
However, I emptied my credit card, paid down my car debt and my score only went up one point. What a load of crock :(

user-pic

Crap!!! I love this feature. Over 2 years, I have been able to track my credit score (albeit from only one agency) and see how financial decisions have affected my rating. It was always a nice way to gauge how opening a dell account hit my credit score, or how closing one of my old revolving accounts affected it.

This is fucking bullshit Chase!!!

user-pic

@Justin Barbieri: Any other way to get a genuine FICO will cost you money. All of those credit monitoring services give you fake scores, not real FICO.

user-pic

@mykie: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. That's GREAT

user-pic

The free genuine FICO was the only reason for applying for this card, oh well, I will just buy the scores once a year.

user-pic

Does this only apply to WaMu credit cards or people with WaMu accounts?

user-pic

@katknits: Same here. There goes the last reason to keep THAT card. Oh well.

user-pic

@katknits: This is one of the best features on my Providian-Washington Mutual-Chase Democratic Party Visa card! What will go next?

user-pic

@PSUSkier: Well, the Providian-WaMu-Chase only gives a Transunion score, so I guess it might we worth a try when they get rid of it.

user-pic

@El_Fez: I would like to see that movie.

user-pic

Stopped using my Visa card as soon as WaMu bought it out. Haven't looked back.

user-pic

Ugh ... I LOVED this feature of my WaMu credit card -- it's half the reason I got it! Having my score staring me in the face everytime I logged on was reason enough to handle my finances better, and my now 800+ credit score agrees. Also, my only other credit card is a Chase card, and I don't like the idea of having all my credit cards with the same company. I guess I'm stuck with it until a bigger bank buys Chase.

user-pic

@Oranges w/ Cheese: it takes time for a score to adjust by design. check it again in 60-90 days.

user-pic

WaMu provided the "Bankcard Industry Option FICO score", not the classic FICO score. Bankcard FICO score ranges from 250 to 900. Classic FICO goes from 300 to 850. See:

Credit Union, coming this summer. Own it in bluray or dvd!"

user-pic

man i really liked that feature of wamu cards.

i was just reading that chase link and they have something called "chase credit builder". it's a 7.99 plan which they will obviously keep since they rather get paid 7.99 than have it offered for free to its customers....money talks.

user-pic

That stinks. I liked this feature. Speaking of...i checked it today and finally got over 800! woohoo!!
