I have to wonder why there's such a demand to continue to create large amounts of cars instead of creating less cars that are built to last longer...

@Pichu0102: Retooling to make cars with thicker bodies would probably be very expensive. This is why I love my 85 Oldsmobile. I know if I hit a BMW, mine will be cheaper to fix.

@Pichu0102:

I wonder why people don't understand that cars *can* last a long time. My Accord turned 13 this year and it's running strong.

Car payments are the devil.

Im still in an '83 Chevy - Secret t success? Maintenance

@McRib_GitEmSteveDave: Also, thicker bodies add weight, which lowers fuel economy.

@David Brodbeck: You can offset that by increasing aerodynamics. There's many things that can be cut off a car that you don't "really" need and add a lot more weight, like 9 way adjustable electric seats.

I misread that as four cars a week. Guess I'll have to wait a few months for it to get that bad

I misread that as Nissan was only going to build 4 cars per day. Although with the economic news I've read today alone, it wouldn't seem out of the question. *sigh*

@kittenfoo: Glad to see I wasn't the only one misreading this morning.

Great Icon!

@KHAN!!!_GitEmSteveDave: Exactly. I heard a report on NPR about a new car with cameras and screens instead of rearview mirrors. Seriously?!

How much money and weight will that add (plus so many more things to break later on in the things lifetime) then a simple mirror?

@Oranges w/ Cheese: It's like headlights. When you get to a point where people steal "Standard" headlights, they're too complicated. What do you do if one way of your nine way seat breaks? Replace the whole thing. My 85 Old's has a two way bench seat. One way forward, and the other is back.
