Grill Drills! Wendy's Burger Rap Attack

6613 views

Hey gang! Remember the 80's, when we were always getting sucked inside video games, tvs, and instructional Wendy's rap videos?

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

Wow that is that rapper trying to make a move on Bill? Bill better watch himself.

Hey I never got a gold plated flipper. The videos I saw when I worked there in '98 weren't that corny. But they were corny none the less.

user-pic

reminds me of dont copy that floppy, which I actually watched in middle school.

user-pic

About time you guys posted it. The singing patties have to be the biggest WTF out of the whole video.

user-pic

Wow. Just the thing to make "Don't Copy That Floppy" look inspired.

user-pic

Salt that meat, Billy, make the taste complete! LOL!!

user-pic

Wow, I watched this video back in '93 when I was in high school flippin' patties for big Dave Thomas.

As a reward for enduring...I mean WATCHING the video and passing the test, our manager gave us cheesy "Top Grill" hats.

user-pic

@brainswarm:

I hit the ok button only I just remember that I no longer have a floppy so I hate to hit the burn button. I guess its ok then.

user-pic

Oh this is all bad !

I worked at Burger King back in the 80's and we never had videos like this. I might have jumped off the building if we did...

I'm definitely going to post this on my website (www.infotainmentnews.net)

Um... when the trainee first turns on the TV and it aparently flips out, the sounds playing are directly taken from the opening section of Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine." I mean, it isn't "sampling", it's taking the whole opening part of the track.

Not a little bit of irony that this particular song was used here, given the subject of the video, either!

user-pic

I miss Dave......

Cooking and pressing our burgers takes a special talent. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

user-pic

Honestly I'm a Manager at Wendy's and that's how I still train our employees.

user-pic

This will sound strange, but I was actually impressed by this video. Not because of the quality music and production values (!) but because it means that Wendy's trains their grill cooks to use observation and judgment to determine when the meat is done. This suggests that at least the grill cooks are NOT being trained to be mindless automatons. Who knew?

user-pic

Spongebob!! You Grill Master you! Now I know why Squidward always screws it up when he takes over in the kitchen- he's never watched the video!

user-pic

I feel like I'm ready to get a job at Wendy's

user-pic

@brainswarm: I had never seen this before... Isn't it great that now you can't copy an entire game onto one disk straight from the computer any more.

Woo Carmen Sandiego!

user-pic

Wendy's makes the best Jr. Bacons!

user-pic

I haven't seen that many workers at a single time at a Wendys in years. Usually there's only three and they're all running behind. Also they are all normal sized people in the video....no huge people like you usually see...wow.

user-pic

Sorry to say, this wasn't just 80's. My first job was at Wendy's in 1994, and we were shown this very video. Grunge had not yet reached wendy's culture.

user-pic

@Stephen Marseille: Damn, you're right...oh, the irony. I guess Wendy's did, in fact, copy that floppy.

user-pic

Well I guess he is set if he has 1 customer that orders 1 triple patty burger and is happy for it to take 10 minutes to make.

On the other hand...that's the most white people I've seen at a Wendies in my entire life. Must have been in Minnesota or Utah.

user-pic

Wait, what were those green and red things being sliced in the establishing shots of the restaurant early in the video? I haven't seen anything like that in the kitchen of a fast food restaurant in a loooooong time.

user-pic

A couple of my thoughts as I watched:

- Wow, that's old, they still had the salad bar.
- Is that supposed to be the view from inside the monitor? 'cause if so, then "READY" should have been backwards.
- Wow, that's a hella lot of salt!
- "Juicy" is a great word to use instead of "greasy".
- It's no Roscoe's Chicken 'n' Waffles video, that's for sure. (can't access YouTube from work, somebody help me out)

user-pic

I remember calling it Beef, not meat.

Did any other former Wendyites have people walking by the breakroom saying "we don't do that, nope not that, not that either"

user-pic

I still have nightmares about "White red and greeen!"
(Mayo, catsup, pickle. Onion, Tomato, lettuce. Mustard broke the cute pattern.)

Yet whenever I dress a burger, I still do it in that order. (I probably saw this in 1990.)

user-pic

@Jonathan Fuentes: You mean they don't actually do that?

user-pic

Billy! Your clothes, hair and skin stink of grease every night you come home! I am tired of washing your smelly uniform every night, why doesn't Wendy's help pay for that??? Huh?? The baby needs formula and we can't afford to live off what that FAT owner of Wendy's Restaurants pays you! Tell him to quit eating there in his suit, too!! Not only that: you keep rappin' in your sleep about meat!

user-pic

@brainswarm: wow. whoever's playing tetris in that video ~2:08 really sucks.

user-pic

Ahh, the Grill Skill video. My dad was a Wendy's GM for fourteen years and brought it home for me to watch when I was seven and asked him what he had to deal with at work every night.

user-pic

@mykie: I also watched these videos during my Burger Flipping days...although, that was in 2002...did you also get the sweet Hot Drinks video?

"Hot drinks really get you goin'
Warm you up when you feel you're slowin'"
