E*Trade Baby Buys Superbowl Ad
The E*Trade baby is back in this year's Superbowl lineup. A series of ostensible outtakes are posted on YouTube. Highlight of the bunch: "I want to punch the economy in the face!" (baby cries).
This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

@nicemarmot617: I am the exact opposite. I am endlessly entertained by talking babies and animals.
Now if you try to sell me something with monkeys dressed as people... then we have a problem.
@nicemarmot617: The original one looked so... lazy. They must have used a webcam and slapped the effects on afterwards because the blurring around the mouth is so obvious. Oh, and the fact that babies don't talk like 20-year-old stoners didn't really add to the illusion, either.
@nicemarmot617: You forgot to yell at all of us to get off your lawn and/or complain that movies are no longer a nickel.
@nicemarmot617: I've always been more bothered by the baby being a total D-bag. Ha ha, babies acting like sexist, entitled, finance jerks. So funny. Why am I not laughing so hard?
@TCTH:
Remember, even the baby himself said "I really underestimated the creepy factor"! These ads are simply brilliant. They are clearly going after a target audience of people with a sense of humor, which evidently, is not everybody.
@nicemarmot617: Same here. And the one where he spits up? Gross! Totally *doesn't* make me want to do business with them at all.
I <3 these commercials. Glad there will be some new ones. I can't even say why I love 'em. I'll actually stop to watch one when it's on TV, or if I've DVR'ed something and I'm FF thru the commercials, if I see the E*trade baby, I'll rewind it to watch it. Besides the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials, I've never done this to commercials before.
@PoopsieDoodle: People that are really into it are not likely intelligent, which is most of the public.
I love this campaign. It takes all the machismo-ball-busting of the trading floor and neuters it.
I don't think enjoyment of this is based on IQ (sorry, above) -- more a matter of how you're wired humor-wise. You either "get it" or you don't. This will probably be the only commercial I'll watch during the game.
I get the humor, I just don't like all the jokes.
And Etrade is horrible. I had an account when I was new to investing, and the fees are crazy. Check out Zecco, they give you 10 totally free trades a month. The only beef I have with them is that their website doesn't work on Safari, which is stupid.
@nicemarmot617: The baby is a douche and probably winds up growing into the guy who spasms with ecstasy as he makes a trade on the Honk Kong market. Hong Kong!!
That's interesting. I've always thought that people with a sense of humor tend to have higher IQs.
@Spaceman Bill Leah: I just hearted you for that monkey comment. I have a hatred and distaste beyond belief for monkeys dressed up as people!
@MissPeacock: Those old Career Builder commercials were the bane of my existence.
God, fucking moneys, ugh!
@Plates: Yes, and that would be my mom. She loves the one where the baby uses the money he made to buy a clown for his birthday party.
I'm pretty tired of this too. At some point, advertisers started to believe monkeys, talking animals and talking babies sell. So now every Superbowl is like a zoo when it comes to commercials.
That's a bit of an overstatement that people who like these ads aren't likely intelligent... The humor in those is pretty wry, and not low-brow... I find those ads pretty funny. I love how the baby's cellphone ring is Rock Me Amadeus... guess that makes me un'tel'gent.
I'm pretty sure they have only applied for TARP money; they have not actually recieved any yet... therefore, we (taxpayers) aren't paying for this one...
If I'm wrong, link me a story so I can catch up, please... :)
i can't remember which tax ad it is, probably turbo tax, but it has the presidents who are pictured on US currency all painted green and talking to a guy with a baby strapped to his front about how his baby is a deduction on this year's taxes... features the line "i think your deduction needs a diaper change"
my sister pointed out that the baby 'acting' in that ad is the e-trade baby
@valsharess1: I'm so with you on that one. Why do people think baby vomit is cute? That is some Trainspotting shit right there if you ask me.
@Mirshaan:
Just because they haven't received it doesn't mean we aren't paying for it, really. The money they spent on the ad could have been used for something else in order to take the pressure off the $800 million they WILL get.
@nicemarmot617: Amen! My friends think I'm bizarre for having that opinion, because obviously all females must think talking babies and dogs must be cute. Creep city.

This one better be good
