Consumerist Nominated For Best Blog
That's right, despite having its budget slashed and being put up for sale, Consumerist still rocked 2008 with a bunch of cool and/or ridiculously awesome posts, and now we're in the running for the Best Blog in the 2008 Weblog Awards. You can cast your vote here. Frankly, we haven't even heard of some of the competitors. Gawk-er? What is that, a peeping tom site? Boing boing? Who names this stuff?

@Hank Scorpio: Okay, before anyone jumps on me for that, it should be "Hear! Hear!"
Sorry, all you language cops.
@dorianh49: Well, I realized that I should have looked up which one was correct after I hit submit. Stupid lack-of-an-edit button!
@narq: Don't be so closed minded!
I don't notice you objecting to "The Huffington Post" being on the list. I suppose that means you're fine with liberal pandering talk radio blogs, just not conservative ones.
I always thought Gawker was nuts for slimming the consumerist down. You guys are the best. I assure you that sites like Valleywag or Gawker.com itself could have had headcount reductions waaaaayyyy before something so ultimately useful as the consumerist.
Bad management decision at Gawker. Glad you guys survived to be bought up by Consumer Reports. I really hope you guys bring some credibility back to consumer reports though as they have been crap for a while now.
@Tues_SteveDave: Ha ha ha ha ha. Favorited, downloaded, and saved to my desktop. What is wrong with me? (And how did this trait stick around for more than a single generation? Evolution, I'm looking at you! It's like a chicken that plucks itself when scared.)
@blackmage439: Same here. I found Consumerist on a random search, killing time on the trolley, reading the internet on my phone. I ended up having my life sucked away by all the Gawker-related sites.
Of course, something changed many months ago so that I can't bring up Consumerist on my mobile anymore...sad face.
@InfiniTrent: Perhaps narq was objecting to the fact that Hot Air (and now Andrew Sullivan) were ahead of The Consumerist, not merely that they were on the list.
@Chris Walters: It apparently shows up occasionally as a random event, and people encouraged it through breeding. Don't worry. Once we isolate the gene and get those pesky laws overturned that say you can't experiment on humans, we will have the herds running wild through playgrounds and parks everywhere. ;)
Best. Blog. Evar.
Seriously though, the only one I find useful, interesting and entertaining every single day! Keep up the great work Ben, Meg and the rest of the staff! Even if you don't win, you're still the winner of my Best Blog of 2008 award! And that's WAYYY more prestigious!
(note: can blog awards be prestigious?)
@MooseOfReason: Oh, I'm sure Denton is shaking his fist in the air RIGHT NOW and shouting out, "Waaaalterrrrrrs!!!"
@theblackdog: For now, anyway. Wait'll the trolls start stuffing the ballot box as we approach Jan 13th.
Perhaps this thread should be stuck to the top of the first page until then?

I just cast my vote.
Stiff competition, but Consumerist is the only blog I consistently find useful.
