WISdomestics Blames Competitors For Its Own Misleading Vibrator Copy
Jen ordered a product on Amazon, but what arrived in the shipment was significantly less than what was promised.
She contact them to request an explanation. Their response counts as one of the stranger excuses we've heard from an online retailer—basically blaming other less trustworthy retailers for misleading Jen on the Amazon listing. You can read their explanation below and see if it sounds legit to you.
I have been reading the Consumerist for years now. And now, when I finally have a story, it's about sex toys! Whee!
Basically, I ordered a "sex toy kit" from WISDomestics on Amazon. It only came with one piece of the kit. I emailed them to ask where the rest of it was and they blamed it on Amazon and said they'd give me a $15 refund - basically saying it's not their responsibility to make sure their product descriptions are accurate. Now that I've done more research, it seems that their listing of the Fun Factory Delight are all at different prices and higher than the rest of Amazon sellers - so I think they've been purposefully deceitful in this listing to make more money in selling a nonexistent kit. I want to ask for a full refund since it's already 12/23 and I'd rather give the one present than nothing at all.
Order #102-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx
Missing parts: The product description clearly states: "Hidden Flower Bullet Egg Vibrator, Crystal Clear Lady Finger, and Mini-Mite Vibrator Included." These were not included in the package I got today. I paid extra for this kit compared to other options which were just the Delight on its own.
Please advise on when I can expect the rest of this gift to arrive.
Thank you,
JenTheir response:

wrote: Hi Jennifer,
Wow, we can imagine your disappointment. We're just as disappointed, because a valuable customer like you was misled by an Amazon Seller.
You notice that you have the option of choosing to buy an Amazon product from several sellers? In order for that to work, we all have an obligation as Amazon Sellers to maintain the product's records according to the rules. One of those rules is not to bundle one product with other products from different manufacturers.
When we indicated to Amazon that we sold the Fun Factory product, this record reflected only the Fun Factory product. After that time, another Seller uploaded different information to reflect a "package" for the product. Since then Amazon has severely restricted that ASIN, and we can no longer change the listings.
We hope you understand that this behavior by the other Seller is beyond our control. On the other hand, we'd like to do something to assure your satisfaction.
If you have not opened the product you can send back the toy and we will give you a complete refund. If you would like to keep the toy we can match the price of our other Fun Factory Delight listing ($199.99) and refund you $15.
Please let us know which you would prefer. We do appreciate your patience.
Kindest regards,
WISdomestics / Wild In Secret
Customer Service
Jen is wondering what to do next. She's found several different listings on Amazon for the same product, each at a different price point:
$123.99
$131.99
$134.99 (the one she ordered)
Jen, we think you should contact the seller one more time and explain that they did not deliver the item they sold to you, and therefore their "unopened product" return policy does not apply. You should demand a prompt refund including shipping, and if they refuse you should contact Amazon to file a complaint about the company's bait-and-switch behavior (that's all this amounts to, no matter what lame excuses they offer). Remember too, that you can file a chargeback on your credit card if necessary—but don't do that until you give WISdomestics a chance to do the right thing, and Amazon a chance to step in and enforce proper merchant behavior.
P.S. That's one fancy vibrator!

I don't see the problem, you got f'ed, isn't that what you were going for?
In all seriousness though, a $15 refund seems to be short-changing you a little. This is why when shopping on Amazon I only buy stuff Amazon stocks themselves, those other retailers on the site are like Ebay retailers, it's a coinflip as to what you'll get.
@alexburrito: So, because she bought a sex toy means that she is excluded from having the same rights as someone who purchased a GPS system or a toaster??
1) I'm amazed at your courage to actually send this to Ben, knowing full well that the rule of pageviews meant it would be posted, and fully anticipating the comments you would get. Courage, thy name is Jen.
2) The response actually makes sense to me. For each product, there are multiple "sellers". A different seller (EG, not WIS) changed the description, and they can't get amazon to change it back.
It's not Jen's fault and she should get a refund or the rest of the kit, but I can at least make sense of WIS's response.
I always wondered what it would be like to contact customer service of a porn or sex toy company to inquire about the product. One time someone's porn was delivered to our mailbox, and the intended recipient's address was a completely different city. I laughed a little inside, thinking about the guy who ordered it calling up Vivid and saying he didn't get his porn.
I wanted to find the guy's house and set it under the windshield wiper of his car with a note saying "they sent this to me by accident, here's your porn" but I'm lazy.
Kudos to Jen for standing up for her sex toy rights.
That still doesn't make sense to me. If the product description is incorrect, can't WIS remove their inventory from that product listing and create a new listing with the right description? I still say WIS is at fault for misleading the customer.
Now that sex toys are on-topic for Consumerist, if you've never seen this, you probably should.
Stick with it and you will be rewarded.
@hamsangwich: Agreed. I've been given the run around a couple of times by the third party Amazon sellers. I do a ton of research whenever I have to resort to placing an order that way.
@Crabby Cakes wants some Dance Biscuits.: No they said they uploaded an item description and then another seller also uploaded one so it changes it for every seller.
I find that hard to believe. Seems more like Amazon would be product descriptions direct from the manufacturer and all that the seller would submit is their price for that item.
Bait and switch!
Based on the Amazon database as of "right now", I'd say this one at 149.99 is the one Jen thought she ordered, but that particular item is NOT in WISdomestics' list. Granted Amazon can and does change things around way too often, but I can see no way to have ordered the "kit" from anybody but an outfit called "Condoms".
@m4ximusprim3: Im sure Jen isnt the only person who uses a sex toy. Why should she feel ashamed or embarrassed for doing so?
@parad0x360: Ha! Doesn't it seem like they would. Amazon does not and frequently has issues with their product descriptions. One time in a discussion with a CSR they told me that they reply on customers to vet those descriptions by returns and complaints. It's simply too much to keep up with! When push comes to shove on things they sell, however, they will bend. They gave me a $100 credit when a Tag watch I bought came with a rubber band rather than a stainless one.
I've always found Amazon a little confusing for the same reason listed above in the article (one item, multiple prices). I think a chargeback is a good option only because the company tried to solve her problem but it wasn't a good enough solution. What you see on the website/pay for is what you should get regardless.
But $200 dollars for a sex toy? Thats one expensive f***!!!
@Applekid: I know I just got weird looks from the guy next to me at the airport for watching that video, but so worth it. Got anymore? I have a long night ahead of me. Dang snow.
@parad0x360: She shouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed but that doesn't mean people wont try to shame her---See alexburrito's comment as reference.
@lisa1120: No doubt they are liable for not including the item as advertised. I'm just saying it's quite possible that they didn't intentionally mislead her- maybe the description was changed and they never noticed until someone complained.
@parad0x360: She shouldn't be ashamed. Personally, I've used anal beads several times with pleasurable results.
That being said, there's a difference between that and having it posted to a site like the consumerist where you and I both know the commenters can be less than tactful.
@lisa1120: You nailed it.
As long as they acknowledge they knowingly sold their product under a different description they are in the wrong.
They are even more in the wrong when they have the ability to create a new listing that matches their product.
Even if they were forced to sell in that listing or couldn't create a new listing like the small sellers they can still warn people. Put in the Condition and Comment Boxes in Capital letters that not everything is included if people buy from you, and detail your exact product there.
@jpdanzig: oh, hell no! You can't get a good dildo for under $200... you can get some toxic infused, penis shaped piece of plastic for $40
@hamsangwich: I have not had a problem with the Marketplace sellers. But I am always very careful and only buy small items from very reputable sellers. Big purchases like this I would buy direct from Amazon only.
Hi; the company I work for has two Amazon store fronts. This is actually the complete and actual truth. It is a fight with Amazon to get them to correct something when another vendor has it listed incorrectly. The main problem we run into is we sell many items that state "Colors Vary" with the same ASIN & UPC code for all colors. Then some other company will list the item as blue, or green, or some such and it will change our listing. Every time this happens we have to open a "case" with Amazon and they investigate it. With some items it has been such a pain that we have just stopped listing them. I hope this information is of use to someone, and if you want more information please let me know.
Thanks!
@jdhuck: It seems like initially the company tried to fill the crack in its image, but now that the word is out, there is a gaping hole. Hopefully they will plug it fast.

The lesson here is: Never order a vibrator while using another one!
