What Purchase Do You Regret The Most?
Sometimes we buy things and days later, or even minutes, we totally hate ourselves for buying it. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Maybe you walk down the block and see it on sale at another store. Maybe you were drunk online shopping. Maybe you just needed to really cross off a to-do item so you could feel like a good productive person and so you rushed onto Amazon and bought something without doing research and it ended up being the totally wrong thing. Maybe it's just plain stupid and you never use it anymore. For me it would have to be the Wii. I never play the damn thing anymore, the graphics blow, and all its vaunted interactivity is really incredibly basic after the magic wears off (wake me when it's gyroscopic). It might be different if my girlfriend played it with me (that was part of the reason I bought it, so we would have a game to play together) but she's too busy and stressed. And so it sits, a winking white slab. What's purchase do you regret the most?

I regret buying a pair of RCA noise reduction headphones with a debit card from Buy.com. Not only did I not receive the headphones, but instead they sent me a set of cheap screwdrivers that were made in China. The headphones were a gift, the screwdrivers arrived two days before Christmas. I tried to resolve this through BBB. Buy.com told them it was resolved. But it was not. The screwdrivers were returned, but no refund or headphones were ever received. Woot.com used to be one of my favorite online shopping spots, until I found out they were Buy.com.
I suckered myself into buying two suits from Men's warehouse for like 50% off the second one, and added on all the other junk like shirts and matching handkerchiefs and I was out 700 some dollars for something I'd be lucky to wear once or twice a year. blar, at least I don't have to worry about suits ever again.
@Boatski: I'm the proud owner of a hand-me-down Wii because my Dad bought it for my Bro and only used it once. But actually I don't use it at all either, hmm.
Oh, Christ.
I was scheduled to go on a business trip to Norway for a month in the dead of winter. Egged on by my D&D-geek inner child, I had a beautiful lined, hooded, full-circle wool cloak made for me. Five HUNDRED dollars, which for the material and workmanship was an exceptional deal. It looked good on and it felt good on.
They sent me to Dubai instead. I live in Houston. The beautiful thing, and I can't bear to part with it (but I can't bear to look at it), is gathering dust and moths in my closet at the moment.
(cries)
My wife and I live in seattle. At the beginning of the summer a couple years ago we bought a mazda miata. it was awesome. Then winter came and it was almost un-drivable in heavy rain, the slightest bit of frotst or snow, and any kind of icy roads. We had it less than 7 months before we sold it.
Fun car if you live somewhere where it's summer year-round.
@Triterion: I agree with this. Except I took the second suit back with the shirt. The suit I kept doesn't even fit right. Going to H&M next time I need a suit.
Its got to be my house. After years of working my way to financial stability, I took the pplunge and bought a house in spring, 2007. Yep, at the peak of the market here. Now, it looks like I amy be out of this job in a year, and there is no way I will sell the house for what I gave for it. I love my house and it is far from a mansion, but I wish I had stayed renting. Even though I have a good mortgage (VA)I am worried about it.
On the frivolous side of the house, it was the guitar for my daughter. She won't touch it.
3 years ago I bought a "Shirt and Tie" snowboard jacket. I thought it would look hella cool, you know, looking like you were wearing a suit on the ski slopes. Except, the tie was rubber and impossible to actually tie. It was just a vinyl shirt. So no warmth or wind protection at all. If you put anything on under it was bulking and looking like shit. Oh, and I'm not a hipster or a douche bag, so it wasn't even my style ... did I mention I put it on a credit card? Yeap, I was smart. The whole thing was fucking stupid.
@downwithmonstercable: I'll trade you a beautiful winter cloak for it. No, wait, you sold it. Sorry.
@downwithmonstercable: " mazda miata. it was awesome." Never before have those words been uttered together before.
Yeah I have to throw in the Wii too. I wish I had gotten a 360. I have not turned on my Wii in maybe 4 months. And that was just to check the weather.
The thing is such a children's fad toy. Good for some, but I thought Nintendo would create some really stellar channels. Its all hype. I can't sell it though, my mother in law bought it. She would kill me if she found out it was gone.
@mcjake: yeah, maybe awesome was the wrong word. the convertible part was awesome, the rest of the car, meh.
Mine would be the wii also. Mainly because I bought it and 3 controllers and a bunch of other accessories and games. Spent about 600 the day I got it. Ended up selling it a few months after I got it for about 200 dollar loss. Don't know why I got it since I like online games and rpgs plus I am too lazy to do stuff with the controller.
Also I regret buying a psp when I did because like a three weeks after the new ones that you could hook tvs up to came out. I still like the psp but wish I would've waited.
I bought a Classic Army G36C Airsoft Gun. They run $350 new, so I bought one on eBay for $225. Turns out it didn't work right, the seller dodged the issue and claimed I broke it. Lost the PayPal dispute. Spent $50 to have it repaired, then $40 repaired again. After I got it working, I upgraded it and jacked something so now it won't work right. I need to probably spend another $50 or so to have it fixed professionally.
All the while my friends are usuing $150 off brand AK-47's they bought on eBay that work great.
This year, I'd have to say FarCry 2 for the PC.
No bugs. Just really, really, really tedious after the millionth beserker native/merc comes after you.
I would almost say GTA IV for the PC, the initial setup is an exercise in torture. But it's been as fun and rewarding as I had hoped after I got past the MMA10 errors. Rockstar sold out to Microsoft with Games for Windows, but they are still getting plenty of quality time from the Tech.
@speedwell: lol, I just read your story. I'm done with my bad dealings though... that's too bad you have yours with you to remind you :)
My biggest purchase regret is my CHEVROLET UPLANDER. I wish and pray often that it would catch fire or get stolen. I was actually feeling better when I thought GM would go bankrupt. I figured it was Karma but no they will get a bailout and will continue making pieces of shit. I want a bailout for that piece of shit.
My sewing machine. I bought it back when I started doing a lot of sewing, but never got around to cracking the box open, reading the instructions, and learning how to use the thing. Anytime I needed to sew something, it just seemed easier to stitch it by hand than learn how to use the machine.
Two years later I'm now a dedicated hand stitcher with no intention of ever using the thing. It's sitting in the corner, still in the original sealed box, collecting dust. I really need to get rid of it.
@Boatski: wanna sell it to me?
i would say my Energizer 15-minute rechargable batteries... i was naive and didnt know about batteries at that time, blame my 13 year old brain

My Wii as well, hahaha.
