Tweeter Turns Over To Liquidators Early, Customers' Pre-Paid Items In Question
Tweeter, a MA mid to high-end electronics retailer, and not a misspelling of a popular microblogging service, decided yesterday to close its doors 6 days ahead of schedule, and send home everyone without paying them. Furthermore, customers who have already paid for the merchandise, expecting to be able to come by and pick it up, will have to deal with the liquidators. [BoingBoing Gadgets] (Thanks to Hawkins!) @The Name's Ash78, Housewares: How so? They were the only retailer that actually knew what they were talking about, and you couldn't beat their install team (when we're talking about larger retailers).
Their prices were high, but you got high-end product, and high-end installations.
Try having Circuit City set up something like a Crestron whole home audio system and see what happens (or even just a freakin' car radio for that matter).
@KStrike155: The two I've been two have had virtually zero inventory, unhelpful staff (and creepy, if you include the times they've descended on my wife), and have sold 80% of the same inventory as everywhere else, but for a 30% markup. Never saw more than one other customer in a store. Their massive stock of Monster Cable for EVERY type of connector spoke volumes about their business.
Sure, it's nice to have a place to go if you need high-end brands and installation service, but in my area, there have always been local mom&pop hi-fi retailers who would do it. I just never saw the niche for these guys.
Link to the really original story and not from the blog from the blog from the blog is [www.boston.com]
@TemporaryError: The employees still have outstanding pay that is owed. From the original story, one manager was told from a call to his home not to show up or go into the store.
@Izzo: I hope he had a special discount around the end of the time working there... you know, the 100% off discount...
@corinthos: They did, as well as Discovery over Monster Garage, and Disney over Monsters, Inc, who all settled. They have been going after any body that uses monster in their name for years.
This totally sucks, but I cannot say it is that big of a surprise, given the way corporations big and small are allowed to f*ck over whomever they need to in their greed.
The real culprits will never be held accountable, and will never have to answer to the employees and customers left literally out in the cold.
@econobiker: that's a good discount, especially for someone who's about to be kicked to the curb. I know if it were me who had just gotten sent home without pay for the time I had worked, the 100% discount would be in full effect.
If you bought the TV with your Tweeter Card, then your account is acually with a seperate finance company. I believe it is GE Capitol. So, you will have to pay according to your finance terms. If you don't they will file for collections on you. Their extended warranties were backed by a separate company so you should still have the coverage. I would contact them to confirm your coverage and how to obtsin service if you need it. The extended warranty company is called ServiceNet. Hope that helps.
Tweeter ripped me off of a 2,500.00 deposit that was put down to hold an installation date. I got nothing out of this at all, no TV, no installation, no nothing! Its nice the BK looks out for the corporation, but completely screws the little guy like the customers and employees. I pretty much gift wrapped money right to the bankruptcy fund...thanks alot Tweeter. I hope you burn in hell for the holidays.

Thank goodness. Worst electronics retailer of all time.
