Steve & Barry Auto Industry Fail Shirts On Sale

5968 views
Steve & Barry's is in Bankruptcy, and the Big 3 are rattling their tin cups around Washington. It's a great synergy of failed brands, and it's on sale! 2 more fail shirts, inside! (Thanks to Nathan!)

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

Ugh oh...looks like the liquidators jacked up the price of everything before discounting them. Good thing I loaded up on clothes before they filed bankruptcy.

I bought a few items when they were $2.50 a garment at the local one a few weeks ago.

It's sad. They just opened up only to close. Probably because their clothes are such poor quality.

@mbz32190:

BestBuy did the same thing. Jacked up prices, then offered small discounts or free shipping. It's a nice little scam.

I didn't know they were taken over by liquidators. In that Ford hoodie photo, the price under the $12.95 is probably $8.95. But to somebody who has never shopped S&Bs before, $12.95 looks like a freakin steal.

Too bad to see them go. I always found their clothes to be of good quality.

It's funny that they didn't charge the industry standard enormous mark up and sold clothes for what they should cost, but people immediately got the perception that the clothes must be inferior. When in fact their clothes were identical to the $80 Nike hoodies being sold by Foot Locker elsewhere in the mall.

Not exactly. Shoes are a bit lesser quality than national brands (but far better than Walmart cheapies). Tshirts and hoodies seem to be about the same. Dress shirts are total junk.

That said, I'm sorry to see them go.

Sorry, when your product doesn't even last long enough to get it home, you deserve to go bankrupt.

user-pic

@pegr: The "quality" of S&B products across the board was wildly inconsistent.

user-pic

I've always liked that store. Our malls just got these stores and now they'll be gone.

user-pic

But the hangers still last longer than a couple of uses, right? (makes mad dash for whichever stores are still around)

user-pic

The S&B by me always has clothes that are like $8.

user-pic

i went into the nearby S&B on black friday... prices didn't seem marked up. in fact, i got to the register, shirt rang up at $6.99, i made a face. the cashier (who was apparently one of the managers) said "not what you were expecting?" so i told her that i thought it was an additional 30% off the marked price... she went ahead and discounted it for me. great service. shame it's closing, but i just hope people like this manager get jobs elsewhere very quickly

@drjayphd: they were selling the hangers seperately... 5 for $1
and these aren't your cheap Old Navy hangers... these are solid wood

user-pic

Ah yes, Steve & Barry's, the store that didn't sell a thing for over 10 bucks.

But hey, look at this discount, 30 percent off - it's only 13!

=/

@Gstein: Yeah, I saw. And my girlfriend works next to one of the still-breathing ones, so what better excuse to visit her? ;)

@coren: Oh, let's be fair, that's 30% off $12.98... see, it's only $9.086! (Exact change, please.)
