@InfiniTrent: My boyfriend was talking to me about guns last night, and he insists the reason that cops empty clips into people is because their guns (like this one) have absolutely no stopping power.
I'm fairly certain that if I were shot, in any part of my body with any sort of caliber, I would stop. And probably scream.
@philmin: A quick google search shows that particular watch around $400 at the cheapest. Don't know about the haggling.
@Oranges w/ Cheese: No stopping power? How high do you have to be before bullets don't even faze you?
I'd assume it has a lot more to do with adrenaline and lessening the chances that the shootee survives to sue the officer.
@NHTOB_GitEmSteveDave loves->★: Lots of deals depending on where you are, just have to call around. Although I'd recommend something in a 20 ga or 12 ga pump... effective and less prone to jams.
Now, just need to make sure Mrs. Claus sees the Cabela's ad...
@Hate_Brian_Club: Well, it's also a survival thing. You don't want to pause after each shot and ask, "Are you stopped yet?". Better to empty your magazine and asses while you're reloading.
Disclosure: Son of a 30 Newark, NJ PD veteran.
@rpm773: When I read that I pictured Oprah standing up to her audience and going, "You get a gun, and you get a gun, and you....".
@Hate_Brian_Club: I understand it's because the bullets are often so high velocity that if they hit straight on and don't hit a bone, they may just pierce through like a skewer. Hollow-point rounds are designed to mushroom out at the tip, increasing the square inches that actually go through the body. Much more punch, but far more deadly.
@Hate_Brian_Club: You know, cell phone cameras are so cheap and light these days, why not put them under the barrel of police pistols so they show exactly what the guy was up to, if he looked like he would stop, etc. Or perhaps these cameras could be worn on the uniform and be mandated by law, and they would be activated to record a low-framerate video every time they detect a loud noise, ie a gunshot. It could record locally, or transmit via cell phone communications to the court. I'm thinking a memory buffer that transmits once it's in range is a good idea to compensate for dead spots. The technology is definitely there, and I believe one could outfit each officer with it for $50-80, perhaps less if the officers already carry a more expandable cellphone. In fact, a cellphone alone with special software has most of the required functions (camera, microphone to trigger video, transmitter), so all it may require is a belt clip on the front of the officer.
Police brutality/coercion in interrogations went way down once it was required in Illinois and Detroit that police officers be videotaped while interrogating suspects and those tapes be available to the jury. With the advent of DNA testing, many people who confessed turned out to be innocent, showing this was definitely an issue.
In the interest of full disclosure and the continued swooning for the President-Elect, Obama pushed for the legislation for videotaping while he was a senator.
@calquist: Yeah, I belive that means you'd actually have to enter a Circuit City store.
No thank you sir!
I once had the idea of making a faux shotgun for people who want the deterrent effect but don't want the gun in their house to shoot little Jimmy and Susie.
Basically, it would be a noisemaker that replicates the "racking" sound of a shotgun. I had heard that sometimes burglars will flee just upon hearing the sound, as most burglars aren't carrying a weapon that's anywhere near as effective as a shotgun.
@SWAK_GitEmSteveDave loves->★:
Remington 370 express. 12 ga pump, 18" barrel, 7 round capacity. The only use for it is home defense. You cannot use a barrel that short for anything "sporting" related. You can typically find them for about $300.
@Saboth: I've heard from a lot of people that a short barrel or pistol grip shotgun is better than a pistol for home defense.
I can't imagine that if I heard a bump in the night, and went prowling around in the dark, and had to shoot, that I could hit crap with a pistol...a shotgun, though, has a large spread and little penetration, meaning it's more likely you'll hit the intruder, without the shot penetrating walls and hitting someone else.
@ekthesy: This would be deadly - if the criminal feels trapped, or chooses not to flee, they'll shoot you and you'll have no defense.
@proskills: Actually, prices have gotten higher lately, with all the demand!
But I wouldn't expect liberals to understand basic economics...hey oh! ;)
@philmin: Just goes to show how much of a mark up those watches have. Anyone interested in Movados should stay away from the watches that have the single diamond at the 12 o'clock postition. Those diamonds are very prone to falling out of the setting.
@esthermofet: @wgrune: I always said that probably nothing ruins a burglars night more than hearing some creaks and then a shotgun racking.
@ekthesy: So, what of that time when they ARE armed with a weapon and decide to call you on your bluff?
@InfiniTrent: Agreed. Get a real shotgun and screw the dumbshit. I'd find a way to lock the thing up (for the kidz) and still have it handy, like a PIN-coded gun cabinet or something.
The first load is rock salt, aimed at the knees. The second load is deer shot.
@unobservant: Good thing Obama will protect you by circumventing our 2nd Amendment Rights. Because violent criminals follow the law.
@unobservant: Guns are machines. Cars kill more, but I don't see you cringing in fear and wetting yourself every time we talk about cars. Grow up.
@HurtsSoGood: And if you shoot them, kill them, because if not, they'll sue your butt for shooting them while violating your rights.
@NHTOB_GitEmSteveDave loves->★: The same keeps potential suitors to your fourteen-year-old daughter in line, too. And reintroduces them to the yesteryear habit of ending every sentence win a "sir"!
@Trai_Dep: ...to say nothing of commentators whose fingers type "win" when their brains meant "with". Sigh.
@noone1569: It's actually much better. The 'bundle' is made such that the GH II game is marked down to $5, and the Xplorer is the regular online price of $20. When you go to the store, the in-store guitar price is $10.
Remember how CC announced that they price-match their online to instore and vice versa now? It's automatic from the register now, so the bundle will price adjust itself to $15 for game+guitar and extra guitar.
How do I know this? I bought this yesterday from CC.
@Oranges w/ Cheese: Or they're trying to impress that hot, hawt assistant coroner with their neat, tight spread pattern.
@speedwell: Firearm deaths in 2005, the most current year for which we have statistics from the CDC: "...nearly 31,000", of which half were suicides ([www.cnn.com]).
Traffic fatalities in the same year: 43,443([www.usatoday.com]).
Don't leave the house, unobservant. Someone might have a (gasp) car near you, or even be thinking about using one.

That's a great deal on GH II.
