KB Toys Manager Says Use KB Gift Cards Before Their Final Closing Day
A tipster claiming to be a KB Toys manager says that consumers should use their gift cards before the final day of the liquidation.
Our KB Toys tipster says:
I work for kb toys as a manager.
In response to what will happen to your gift cards: USE THEM IN STORES BEFORE OUR FINAL SALES DAY.
You can redeem your cards but we can no longer sell them. We are to tell you we are "sold out" of cards when in reality we have just been instructed to destroy / remove the cards for the simple fact that it would be unethical to continue to sell cards for a store in the liquidation process.
You must use them before we close other wise there is no guarantee you will be reimbursed. I have heard from other managers that there is probably an address where you can send back your cards and get a check but I don't think that is true.
Also we can still process returns on previous purchases BUT NOT ANYTHING BOUGHT [NOW] TILL CLOSING.
These tips match what Consumer Reports found by calling KB Toys and testing a gift card on their website. The website didn't work, but the stores were still accepting the cards.
In any case, don't delay. Use those cards as soon as you can.

but I really have a feeling this will be the last hurrah. It was good to have a competitor to messy, too big toy r us.
If I get a gift card for B-day or Xmas I'll spend it within a week of getting it. My kids got BestBuy (Why?) cards last year for Christmas and we finally used them.
I'd rather get cash anyway.
Is there a certain date when they will be closing their doors for sure?
Wouldn't it be a good idea to use any gift card ASAP?
um, i would think this would be obvious. If i had a gift card from a liquidating dealer, I wouldn't wait until it closed to redeem it...
And if you just can't find anything you like, just get something to zero out the card and drop it in a "toys for tots" bin.
I hear toy donations are down this year.
They are not telling the employees much information, pretty much the KB Toys associates know just as much as anyone else. The most they have been told is that the earliest the store is closing might be mid January but it is up in the air right now. Hard to believe anything corporate says to its associates. Don't wait till it's too late to redeem gift cards, go redeem them this week.
I was in there today at the local mall. There were no signs saying the store was going out of business, although there were big sale signs. The worst part was the loudspeaker was still announcing the availability of gift certificates just in time for Christmas - obviously failing to mention that they're not going to be usable for much longer.

@lmarconi: @lmarconi: As an employee, I can tell you that a) any returns on previously purchased items can be returned if necessary FOR THE TIME BEING. b) Gift cards can still be redeemed FOR THE TIME BEING. c) the .com has something "wrong" with it, preventing you to use your cards on line- go to the store if necessary to use it. d) the new signage indicating the GOB sale should be up in the stores tomorrow. Please be patient with the associates. Melville above is right, there's not much being said.
@nsv: True, but the definition of ASAP probably changes if the gift card is for a store that's going out of business.
i work for kb toys, there is nothing else hiring, and now im stuck. This economy better get better....Lets see if Obama will really "change" cause we really need it.

I would be inclined to say that people should just go ahead and use them up, ASAP, if they are wrapped up and under the tree already.. time to un-wrap them.
