Just in case you were wondering.

As a former Fire Warden, this does pose a fire hazard (obstructing fire extinguishers).

Hope they remove it soon, but a funny photo nonetheless.

user-pic

This is funny, but I would guess this was taken at a store with liquidators....liquidators will sell everything and anything that isn't bolted down.

user-pic

Ah yes, the Gordon Brothers protecting their assets.

user-pic

At least they used an official company letterhead to make it look nice...

user-pic

@Chols: Is a sheet of paper that much of an obstruction?

user-pic

@ShizaMinelli: there's probably a law that says anything blocking the view is an obstruction.

user-pic

I was at a Linens and Things and overheard a salesperson calling around to different department stores offering to sell the shelving. This doesn't surprise me at all.

user-pic

It would be useful if they did - a few months ago I was looking for a small fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen, and had to check in a few different stores. Frustrating & concerning - they're good to have around, and I'd thought homewares stores would have them. If I thought there might be one at Circuit City, I might have considered going there.

(Eventually found one at Kmart. Not expensive, and reduced our renter's insurance by a bit. Hopefully we'll never have to use it!)

user-pic

@oneandone:
Your local hardware stores will have them in stock, along with the mounting brackets.

user-pic

@ShizaMinelli: blocking the label so you can't see what type (Foam / CO2 / Water) would count as a problem....

user-pic

So, how much for an official circuit city fire extinguisher? Does that sign cover the price?

user-pic

@oneandone: Ensure you keep it up to date and check it often. My old apartment (that I was renting from the owner, not a coordinated management or anything) had 2 in the place, both of which were empty and/or expired. When I actually NEEDED it, I had to throw water on the fire instead. Not fun.

user-pic

When our local CompUSA went out I saw people buying the lights in the ceiling, the cameras and pa system, the slatwall, even the trash cans in the entrance. I do remember that they couldn't sell the shopping carts or POS systems, as these are actually rented. This must be quite common, as there don't seem to be many companies out there selling used checkout scanners and other POS equipment. And if you can get it, that reinforced slatwall (with the aluminum strips in the grooves)is awesome in shops or garages, and is normally hundreds of dollars per sheet.

user-pic

....how much for the DO NOT SELL sign?

user-pic

So there's still hope for Circuit City. They're not yet at the point of having a fire sale.

user-pic

When I worked at Best Buy, there was some idiot who came in an hounded me about selling him the DVD player that the in-store audio system was played from. I eventually had to get a manager to tell the guy that it wasn't for sale.

user-pic

This must be part of the Circuit City Fire Sale.

user-pic

@Nighthawke: I thought of that - it was going to be our next stop. In the hectic-ness of moving & new job & not knowing a new city, I figured we would be able to find a fire extinguisher at the same time we were picking up shower curtains, etc. Didn't have any opportunity to look up the nearest hardware store - but I'm sure Spring will present a reason to find one.

user-pic

@Oranges w/ Cheese: Thanks for the reminder. I already feel bad for not changing the batteries in the smoke detectors (you're supposed to do it when you change the clocks, right?).... now I will do my best to keep up with the extinguisher.

user-pic

Actually, they most likely will sell that fire extinguisher during the last two days of liquidation. Everything goes - shelves, counters, anything that's not actually a part of the building will get sold..... just not yet.

user-pic

Would you like an extended warranty with your fire extinguisher?

user-pic

@mbz32190: Even stuff that is bolted down. They sell the fixtures and shelves too as the last round of liquidations.

user-pic

@lockdog: My friend bought really awesome cube-style poster board racks when a local craft shop went out of business. She's an artist so she saved a TON buying them that way, you can get awesome deals on fixtures and stuff when stores close.

user-pic

100 bucks says I could have bought it anyways.

user-pic

@lockdog: There are also salvage companies that specialize in all types of store fixtures by the truckload.

user-pic

@mbz32190: Part of my job at CompUSA when it was closing was to sell the bolted down crap. I would look at it, set a price, then tell the customer they were responsible for removing it.

user-pic

That fire extinguisher is probably one of the few open-box, floor sample that actually works at CC!

user-pic

I will buy the rack it is mounted on.

user-pic

@Applekid: Not sure...but you'll want the Monster brand ceramic enamel core wall mount bracket which includes screws made from double braided strands of wtfinium...for the low low price of $79 - your family is worth more than $79, right?

user-pic

i just bought the keosk i used to work at!!
35$
the dumb terminal they kept but the cash draw was stuck to it so they left it :p (didnt tell them i bolted it there when i worked there from the inside) easy to remove with a ratchet rinch :)

Ah memories (amazingly its the orginal keosk and it still has my name written inside it :)

user-pic

@Chols: It'd be an even greater fire hazard if it got sold to a customer the day before the fire...

user-pic

@KhaiJB: And how hard is it to remove that paper and read the label?

user-pic

You know they had to put that sign up because some dumbass asked to buy it.

user-pic

@ELC: not a problem at all.

but if you've run across a sales floor to find the wrong type, you could be in trouble.

user-pic

I was part of the sharper image fiasco and I gotta say...someone's breaking policy. Gordon Brothers bought all this equipment along with everything else and when the signs say "All Fixtures, Furnature, and Equipment"....that's what they meant. Looks to me like an associate or one of the Gordon Brothers has their eye on this sweet piece of equipment....a terminable offence if someone's "Holding Something Back"...With these liquidators, they wanna make a profit on EVERYTHING!!! If you see something like this, ask an associate...if you really want it...they HAVE to sell it, unless it has one of those fugly orange sold stickers on it. I bought a bed from Linen's and Things for $100, they're using the same process I went through as well.

user-pic

Haha I walked into my local Circuit City and bought some Dynamat for $20 a pop and the license plate Dynamat for only $8! but to get back onto topic, I nearly fell on the floor laughing when all the shelves had big "DO NOT SELL" signs on them and the employee's only door had it too.

user-pic

omg, i want to see them try to ring that in though.

"Hey Bob, I can't ring up this Fire Extinguisher"
"Is it in a box?!?"
"Nope"
"?"
"And there isn't a barcode on it or price"
"{gunshot}"
"OMG BOB!!!"
