Those of you with Macs will soon be able to use Netflix's "Watch Instantly" feature. Hooray! [CrunchGear]

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

It couldn't come soon enough. I've been waiting for over a year.

Honestly, as a person who has and works frequently with both, I'm far more excited about the inclusion of Firefox support.

I don't really see the necessity of making this a 'story'. However I'm amused by it's appropriately sized title.

"Linux Users Still Screwed," film at 11.

hm.. I don't use a mac to watch netflix, but I would have thought flip4mac would have fixed this issue? Does anyone know?

user-pic

It requires the installation of MS' stunted answer to Quicktime, Silverlight, however.
Yet another example of Microsoft bundling to force consumers to use their less-than-Mactastic software. Couldn't they simply, y'know, produce brilliant, elegant software that people want to use w/o any sleazy behind-the-scenes marketing shenanigans?
Oh. Asked and answered.

Shouldn't Mac users be out at either film festivals or at coffee shops discussing their favorite ones from said festivals?

Should be clarified to say Intel based Macs. For people like me, who have a Mac just over three years old w/a pre-Intel processor, this will not help.

@sc2373: Nope. Flip4Mac lets you watch .WMV files fine and dandy, but if they're DRM'd like Netflix streaming content is, then your effed.

If it were up to me, I'd have used the same streaming tech Hulu.com does (Flash, I think?), but Netflix is slow to the plate on this one.

@buckeye17: Soon. After we trim our goatees, steam our berets and finish our fourth round of Tantric sex with our significant others.
And engage in bloody fisticuffs over the Sting vs. Chris Martin debate. Because when discussing the two, are bloodied fisticuffs ever not the expected result?

user-pic

@Trai_Dep: Oh, make that DRM'd Silverlight. Yay! Precisely what customers are screaming for.
It's good to see they're two for two, and it hasn't even been rolled out yet.

@mexmexmex2000: Will it work with my ibook which I purchased in 2005? Sounds like a no.

I gave up waiting for Netflix and apple to get their **** straight and bought a Roku box a few months ago. Very nice plus it's much more enjoyable watching my streaming content on my TV rather than sitting in front of my Mac.

@MonkeyMonk: FYOI*, you can string a VGA-out cable from your Mac to your HDTV. Sound too, via the 3.5" minis. Works like a charm.
Heard of wireless for these, but have no idea of the fidelity.

@Trai_Dep: Four times. Such a feat PC users can only dream about.

Seriously though, I have been waiting for this for a looong time. Even though I have a PC, my PC is my super powerful gaming Desktop computer. If I wanna watch something conveniently, I go for the Mac.

user-pic

@OhYeahAlright: Well, we're both jealous of the UNIX guys. I'm not sure how long they do it for, but MY GAWD the positions they come up with!
Think about stringing cables from one of your boxes to your HDTV (see below comment). The results are awesome!

I keep a MacBook in my living that I ocassionally plug into the HDTV with a HDMI cable and 3.5 audio jack to watch YouTube, etc. It'll be nice to be able to leverage my investment to watch NetFlix without having to buy a dedicated PC multimedia rig.

user-pic

And yet I still can't get XP64 support. :(

user-pic

@Trai_Dep: Yes All ya have to do is hit that one spot for just long enough...

(Ya I use Linux, thanks for the compliment!)

I actually do wonder if this will open up Netflix to Linux...

If it does, I'm set. I can be completely free of Windows.
