PayGo cellular. If you use less than 200 minutes every month and don't care about extras like unlimited TXTing and web there are a few providers that come in under $.10/minute ( Page Plus, T-Mobile ToGo, and others ).

I pay between $100-$150 A YEAR on service. When i was on contract the cheapest I could find was $35/month ( $420 before taxes, fees, and overage ) and I was locked in for a long contract.

Turning down the heat is always good advice, but first make sure you have a clean and well functioning furnace, proper insulation, and good windows; all will save you much more than turning down the heat a few degrees.

I think the freezer saves us money. The local grovery stores often sell uncut steaks for song but you need a place to store them. Plus, it's not so much about money as it is knowing that god forbid anything happen, you don't need to leave the house for an extended period.
