MisterJalopy over at BoingBoing has put together a rough outline of a cheat sheet when shopping for eggs, based on an article in yesterday's New York Times on how to interpret egg carton labeling. [BoingBoing]

This is a test contextual ad for the SHOPPING category. It should appear on all SHOPPING entries, unless the subcategory has its own ad.

I see those lousy Egg Council creeps got to you too!

Or do what I do, and raise your own. Second best option: buy them from someone like me. :-)

Yup. I know what goes into my backyard flock, I know how they live, and I know how fresh those eggs are. Oddly, even though you can come over and catch the egg before it hits the nest, I can't call that one "fresh" because that's a reserved word for USDA inspected grade A eggs.

The NY Times article (as usual) only told a part of the story--egg labeling is complex and varies from state to state--but I am glad they began to dispel the "hormone free" claims and other nonsense.
