Lowe's Halloween Decorations Are Already Sick Of Christmas

5259 views

Reader Lee says,

The Lowe's in Cary, NC already has Christmas decorations up. Right next to the Halloween decorations.

Argh! It's not even the MLB post-season yet!

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

Good grief, sigh

user-pic

All the retailers are getting desperate.

user-pic

For x-mas I bought everyone a big government bailout.

user-pic

@snoop-blog: goody!

I love privatizing profit but socializing loss.

user-pic

Welcome [back] to the commercialization of Christmas.

user-pic

This usually doesn't really bother me but now, I've seen to much.
This makes me want to start a rampage of anti-christmas violence against stores displaying such items. I want to go destroy all their Christmas merchandise, swinging a baseball bat at those trees wildly while foaming at the mouth. Bah humbug!

user-pic

@AngrySicilian: I see you got me the same thing...

See this is why I hate X-mas!

user-pic

It's only going to get worse. Who knows if in November we'll start seeing Valentine's Day decorations.

user-pic

@AngrySicilian: why is my name on the right on this reply? This is confusing as hell.

user-pic

@chadbailey: But what I was going to say was that I totally agree.

user-pic

Halloween, the holiday that some Christian extremist groups have 'issues' with, displayed right next to Christmas decoration. Ah, the poetic justice.

Let's learn about how Halloween is actually Satan's birthday, shall we? [www.landoverbaptist.org]

One choice excerpt: Will Jesus Sling Little Children Into Hell For Celebrating Halloween? "You bet He will!" says Pastor Deacon Fred.

I know candy is bad for you, but jeez!!!!

user-pic

It's simple...the retailers know people are going to have virtually no money come December..especially if the economy keeps going the way it is going. They are trying to make up for it by getting people to buy stuff early. (And if that doesn't happen, we are in for a whole mound of Chapter 11 bankruptcies after the holiday season)

user-pic

@snoop-blog:Hey buddy others should not be forced to read your replies.

user-pic

@snoop-blog: Snoop, did you go to the link, it's hysterical (when you try to forget the fact that people really believe the crap).

user-pic

@SkokieGuy: Hopefully you know Landover Baptist is a parody, right?

user-pic

@sir_pantsalot: I don't know what your talking about, I'm in classic view...

user-pic

@snoop-blog: @sir_pantsalot: Hooray. Lets all avoid the system to feel special

user-pic

Bug that needs fixed then when in classic view because your replies aren't going to the appropriate person under the box(es). Just wide out in view

user-pic

@snoop-blog are you able to get on deadspin? I can't even see coments over there.

user-pic

@sir_pantsalot
Nobody's forcing you to do anything.

Like Snoop, I am in classic view, and prefer it.

user-pic

@sir_pantsalot Yeah I'm on deadspin right now. I'm using opera 9.5.

user-pic

@snoop-blog: You may want to try the new comments again. Other gawker sites have reported:

Some news: later today, a few tweaks will go into effect: comments will be displayed in chronological order and replies will be collapsed, but remain in chronological order.

user-pic

I was making a sarcastic point that the way snoop was doing it everyone could see his replies (the way it should be). I think another nice new feature would be to use white text over a white background. This way you cant read any of the posts until you highlight them and the ones you don't want to read you don't highlight.

user-pic

There's nothing wrong about flat out typing names instead of hitting the reply button. People have done it on here forever. I'm sorry that you actually have to read all of the comments I make, but why read any comments if you're not going to read them all?

user-pic

You have to work VERY hard to find the word 'Christmas' in a Lowes.

It's all 'Holiday' stuff. I keep asking people - WHAT HOLIDAY IS IT??? Like the trees and the Santa and the like - WHAT OTHER HOLIDAY uses those images??

And they just look at me like I'm nuts. :(

user-pic

Target in Nashua NH has all the xmas shit right next to the halloween shit.

and at the Costco there on Saturday, some douche was buying eight sparkly-angel yard atrocities. keep buying chinese crap, consumatards.

user-pic

@HalOfBorg:

I keep asking people - WHAT HOLIDAY IS IT???
That is priceless. I gotta start doing that!!!

user-pic

I love the grills at the bottom of the second picture. That made me giggle.

user-pic

@HalOfBorg: isn't it festivas? FESTIVAS FOR THE REST OF US!

user-pic

@Adisharr: That makes sense. Most are REALLY worried about an epic failure of a Christmas season.

user-pic

I asked... according to a store manager, Lowes Corp mandates that the day after Labor Day, the Christmas stuff comes out.

user-pic

@snoop-blog: I believe you mean festiVUS.

Sorry, I take my symbolic, materialistic holidays seriously. Isn't the reason for the season presents?

user-pic

They're eventually just going to leave those things on the aisles all year long...

user-pic

@geeniusatwrok: Uh, isn't basically everything holiday oriented made in China nowadays? You could be crafty and make your own, but I lack those skillz. I'll just wait until the day after Christmas to buy stuff for next year.

user-pic

My K-Mart similarly had their Christmas decorations out last weekend.

user-pic

@Optimistic Prime:
Yeah, and the grills are at "Low Prices". The grills are next to the Christmas Creep stuff so we can take out our fustrations and light the whole thing on fire. Talk about chestnuts roasting on a open fire! And just think, the church groupies can use the same grills to get rid of the Halloween stuff- something for everyone!

user-pic

I've often wondered if a local store manager can choose when to display this junk? Anyone know?

user-pic

i saw an identical display this weekend in Philly, PA.

I think this is part of the reason we are seeing the decorations so early. It does seem like it starts earlier every year, but I know that at least Target use to put out Christmas decorations closer to Halloween as the Halloween merchandise sold out.

I always start my Christmas shopping early. We don't put anything on credit, so our Christmas is always paid in full and we don't have any Christmas bills afterwards.

I love Christmas and I try not to let the early decorations bother me.

user-pic

This Lowe's is just down the street from my house. I was in the Target that is across the street from this Lowes, and they already had an aisle of christmas stuff, mostly lights.

user-pic

@blackmage439:

Your right and it won't be long before you see Christmas trees displayed on the 4th of July. My suggestion, file a formal complaint with the manager of the store and with the corporate office. Send them a message that Christmas is a holiday, and not just a season to make money.

user-pic

@mbz32190: their was in article in the Wall street journal that quoted store reps as saying exactly that - trying to get people to buy early and maybe buy more through extending the season.

user-pic

I was hoping I wouldn't see this day coming. Alas, retailers will stoop to almost anything these days to maximize their cash flow. Used to be they'd only advertise stuff for one major holiday at a time.

Somewhat related: earlier this summer, I noticed up here in Toronto how large grocery/drug/department store chains were prominently displaying bags and boxes of 'fun-sized' chocolate bars, the packs normally reserved for halloween, as back-to-school snacks (at 'kid height', no less)... like it ought to be a daily thing that kids have candy stuffed in their lunch boxes. Pretty sick, given the obesity epidemic going on.

I took a pic on my camera of a low table with a poster of a smiling tot advertising 'the art of snacking' and a Crayola tie-in, if anyone's interested. I was thinking of submitting it.

user-pic

@HyMinded:

Kind of like how some people leave their christmas lights out in their yard all year round? ;)

user-pic

I got a great shot today of a Halloween promo poster flanked by light-up deer and snowmen today at a Target -- I thought of the Consumerist as soon as I saw it.

user-pic

At the Menards I work at in Princeton, Indiana.
We have had all of our Christmas stuff up since September 5th. We were ordered by G.O (Aka General Office, since we are Privatley owned by the Menards family we don't have a "Corporate Office" to start Putting out our stuff on Sept 1st. with all of it and displays having to be put out by the 14th of this month or we have to pay Fines to G.o

user-pic

Thank God For Lowes....I can get ready for Christmas early . Gonna make myself a really nice plywood shack to enjoy the holiday in when the collapse hits us!

user-pic

Am I seeing a payment plan on that christmas tree?
