Google has announced that they're shortening the duration that they keep personal data on users from 18 months to 9 months. Yay! "It's no big deal—we've already got more personal info on you than we know how to monetize," said a Google official in a totally fabricated (yet plausible) statement. [Reuters]
This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

@RedSonSuperDave: keeping data that you enter into their services is not necessarily evil. I try to log everything on my home server so I know who tries to get in and does what. In my eyes, Google is only evil if they sell or give away their information willingly. In the VIACOM lawsuit they were forced to give it away albeit anonymous. As long as google keeps it confidential, it doesn't bother me by what they know.
Or if they cooperate with the Chinese government by helping censor their search results within Chinese borders. Maybe you already know this, but if you Google Image Search "Tiananman Square Protest" in China, the famous "Unknown Rebel" picture does NOT show up.
Until I heard about that, I didn't believe that Google would sell or give away their search results. Now, I don't know what to believe, so the idea of Google keeping a log of my search results kinda gives me the creeps.
I use Scroogle nowadays. Look into it. It's Google without the ads and without the possibility of a record being kept of your searches.

All comes down to how it is used. The U.S. Government has more information on us than Google and I fear how they use it.
