WHO: Minerals Management Service
WHAT: A government agency in charge of issuing offshore drilling leases and collecting royalties was accused of getting payola in the form of sex, drugs, money, alcohol and gifts from oil and gas industry representatives.
WHERE: Oil brokers sex scandal may affect drilling debate [AP]
THE QUOTE: In an interview, MMS Director Randall Luthi said the agency took the report “extremely seriously”
(Thanks to everyone who sent this in!) (Photo: zncjmom)

“extremely seriously.” = “and rolled it up and snorted a shit ton of blow through it.”
@CountryJustice: Is that a metric shit ton, or an imperial shit ton?
And yes, this is why people hate the government. And the oil companies.. hell, this is why a lot of people hate anything you can prepend ‘Big’ to (IE, big-tobacco, big-pharma, big-oil).
The link goes to this post again, not the AP article….at least for me.
@LoriLynn: @ViperBorg: Fixed.

* Two employees engaged in “brief sexual relationships” with customers but didn’t recuse themselves from handling work involving those companies and officials. One employee said she didn’t disclose the contact or consider it improper because “she did not consider a ‘one-night stand’ to be a personal relationship” and didn’t think it would affect government business. One program official allegedly had sex with two subordinates and bought cocaine, sometimes at his office.
So, the Interior Dept. is staffed by pimps and ‘hoes.
sex scandal may affect drilling… ha ha ha
Yeah
I heard this on the radio last night on the way home. Love how my tax dollars are being spent :
I’m in the wrong field.
Wow, another sordid tale of government malfeasance. And since the criminal politicization of virtually all facets of government, what was once actionable is now the staus quo. It isn’t that there isn’t anything anyone can do, rather no one’s going to do anything about it.
OUR treasury is being raped by these crooks, in broad daylight. This administration is like Hans and his eurotrash gang in the first “Die Hard”- never had any actual ideals or demands, it was always just about stealing the money.
There’s bitter consolation though- Dobson, the CNP and the rest of the wackjob home-schooled christianist trash were completely tooled out for their wasted votes, and all they got was skull-fucked in their wallets with the rest of us.
@VeeKaChu: what is criminal politicization?
@whitefang2000: It’s against the law to use political tests or considerations in hiring career employees (not political appointees).
@johnva: Against the law, unless it occurs in a GOP-lead Justice Dept. Convenient, that, huh?
I think the saddest part about this, is that no one is surprised. There is very little shock value to this story, besides the fact that it’s actually being uncovered.
I take this as good news. Maybe it’ll keep them from allowing more drilling, because really, I don’t think it will actually help any of us. Too much corruption in the oil industry, as you can see!
“The reports portray a dysfunctional organization that has been riddled with conflicts of interest, unprofessional behavior and a free-for-all atmosphere for much of the Bush administration’s watch.“

Four more years of eight more years sounds like SUCH a great plan. After allowing even more oil-drilling in pristine, fragile national parks. Because there are mounds of cocaine left untouched, and high-priced call girls left wanting.
On the bright side, finally, Family Values I can live with!
But McCain represents change!
Here’s a helpful chart:

“MMS Chicks” rule! The actual report is a great read of a totally out of control office with a party culture. The best was the “shows no remorse” about taking gifts/ect comments the investigators mention.
Stacy Leyshon- The MMS employee with the side gig of Passion Parties…
Crystel Edler- worked for Leyshon and partied hard too…

I wonder if they are married now…Got to hate having a weirdly spelled name when sh*t goes south and the net explodes.
Ask Jeff Gillooly (tonya hardings ex) about that too- didn’t he change his name to Jeff Smith or something…
@econobiker: wow, dude! a+++ for tracking that down. you get an extra + if you photoshop her into an orange jumpsuit. =D
I thought that photo looked awfully familiar. Thanks for the credit though.
It just gets better -
Oh, the irony. Just before the Department of Interior’s inspector general released reports that laid bare the oil-and-sex scandal in the department’s oil royalties office this week, Interior won an annual award from the federal Office of Government Ethics, The Post’s Mary Pat Flaherty and Derek Kravitz report.
