As for the fund selection, I’d write a much shorter article:
1. Buy low fee index funds.
2. Don’t try to time the market.
3. Go to the beach.
@JustThatGuy3: Fully with you there. Market Timing never pays off except for those collecting the brokerage fees.
Scratching my head over the “should you drop your comprehensive car insurance” bit. It seems to me that once your car’s Blue Book drops to a certain point, say, five grand, it no longer pays to keep full coverage on it, regardless of your financial situation. I can think of a lot of things I’d rather be doing with that money besides handing it over to the insurance company to insure a beater.
