Consumerist Neighborhood eBay Garage Sale

4278 views

Consumerist readers, want to make some cash and get rid of some old stuff? There's infinite space on the virtual folding table that is the comments section for readers to add their eBay auctions - a great way to clean out the closets and make some extra cash to pay down bills or build up savings. We'll get this started with a few items of our own (all start at $.01). More items inside. Add yours in the comments.

It's amazing how psychically cleansing it is to get rid of things you don't want or anymore.

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

My Canon Digital Rebel body (non-working) JUST closed with no bids. Here's the link to the ended auction:
[cgi.ebay.com]

If anyone wants me to relist it, let me know.

The explanation as to why its not working (as far as I can tell) is in there and it DOES come with two batteries, not none.

I have a 42" Toshiba Projo TV on Ebay right now. It ends today, pickup only for obvious reasons.

[cgi.ebay.com]

user-pic

I have a nice condition Bondi Blue iMac up for grabs. It is not worth enough to eBay but if anyone would like to make an offer AND do local pickup (San Jose Bay Area), shoot me an email at microbreak (at) gmail dawt com. Put Consumerist in the Subject line.

user-pic

Anyone else click the link for the "Scissor Sisters" DVD expecting something entirely inappropriate?

user-pic

oh well, not good for me, i dlon't use pay pal......and am not ever gonna use it.....

user-pic

Ladies, if you wear a size 10 or 10.5 shoe, I have three great pairs on auction this week, ending Saturday 7/12. Brands: Merrell, White Mountain, Munro. The Munros are 10.5 wide; the others 10 medium.

[tinyurl.com]

user-pic

$10 to ship a wii game, that is a bit much methinks. i wonder why no one ships media mail any more, less expensive and still ships fast.

user-pic

@ElizabethD: What about us dudes that like to wear ladies shoes sometimes?

I'm just sayin'.....

user-pic

@weakdome: *raises hand*

I have nothing to auction.

user-pic

I have a mint condition 4gb iPhone for auction here: [tinyurl.com]

It comes with all of the original in-box items and the box itself. I will unlock the phone at buyer's request after receiving payment.

user-pic

homerjay: i might be interested, can you email me at shadax a-t gmail dawt cawm? thanks

user-pic

$9 for shipping a Wii game seriously? Media mail is $1.40...

user-pic

@outinthedark: You can't ship out video games by media mail, at least where I am. USPS regs don't allow it, or at least that's the interpretation they have. I've tried to do it before, and failed.

user-pic

@Steve ... cause its extra profits.

I've shipped games in media mail, i always just say its a movie.

user-pic

Not on ebay, but I've got an entire room of stuff I need to clear out. Here's a couple of the bigger things:

- 1 set OEM Corvette wheels, C6 gen (18" fronts, 19" rears), polished finish. They're scuffed and scratched, great for track days. $300 obo.

- "Conversion II" Elliptical and Stepper in one. Bought for my girl who loved it for a year plus, but now we both just go to the gym. Paid some $500 but last retailed for $299, so I dont know, sell for $150 obo?

Items are local to DC for pickup only.

user-pic

Boo @ US only delivery - I wear size 6 blades and need a new(ish) pair. Alas!

user-pic

Why don't you all use craigslist.com? It's free and available in your local neighborhood. Recycle your treasures locally.

user-pic

i'm selling a bunch of my dvd's in a lot to make moving in a couple weeks a little easier:
[cgi.ebay.com]
it's got bids on it, but i started it at a penny. it's actually the second time i'm listing it because the last winner was a bastard and never paid. ebay really shot itself in the foot when they got rid of negative feedback.

user-pic

@ElizabethD:

Oops, sorry -- slight correction to my post above.

I don't have the Munro shoes listed yet (our Internet is down at home). Instead, I have women's Privo by Clark's sandals. Current summer style, worn twice, decided the thong style didn't work for my toes. Size 10, runs slightly large (10.5 can wear these). Lists for $70-plus on Zappo's etc.

user-pic

@homerjay:

Homerjay: LOL! Actually, many sellers who list women's larger sizes (like mine, alas) do include a "cross-dresser" tag in their auction titles.

You are most welcome to bid on my shoe auctions. The black White River dressier sandals would look fabulous. :-)

user-pic

@ElizabethD:

White MOUNTAIN. I promise this is my last post on this topic! Arghh.

user-pic

@outinthedark: I shipped my 360 HD-DVD player media mail...!

hey fellas, I've gotta Dell 3400MP DLP projector for sale. New condition, was a splurge purchase that I never ended up utilizing. Been sitting around doing nothing, and since I'm rather lazy never bothered to list it, so let's see where this post goes.

review that made me buy it:
[archive.laptopmag.com]

user-pic

@Erwos: I interpreted "# Computer software and other computer-readable media" as including video games. Maybe the USPS is just that out of touch, though. Oh well, I am about to drop off 18 pounds of games and send 'em media mail because I am moving!

user-pic

Sirius S50 radio among other items. Check out other items by seller.

Only charge actual shipping costs (if that's a concern)

Looking for buyers that don't ding my shipping time stars because they paid for media mail (or parcel post for non-media items) and I mail the next day after payment and they don't receive fast enough.

user-pic

@Caveat:

I try to use Craigslist but have found it to be a headache by me. Too many flaky people not showing up, showing up and not bringing the money for the agreed upon price and then using that to demand a discount, people showing up and then have no way to take item and ask for a ride (or delivery), the random posts where they're like "I don't want (what you're selling/giving away) but I do want to see you naked" etc etc...

eBay, though it has its own headaches, is a little better. Not much.. But it's working for me thusfar.

user-pic

@homerjay: Hey! Its working! I went to go put it in its box (its been a couple weeks since I've tried turning it on) and its working now!

Anybody want a fully functioning Canon Rebel SLR body?
:)

user-pic

Nice timing. Unfortunately a few of my auctions ended this weekend, but I'm still unloading some Coach and Vera Bradley purses:

Vera Bradley "On the Go" bag in Java Blue

Coach Slim Hobo in Black Leather

Coach Drawstring in Tan Leather

I may list some other items this evening or tomorrow, mostly purses, women's jeans, and shoes.

user-pic

Oh, also, can I interest any of you book lovers in Swaptree? I have a nice list of books up for trade, most in excellent condition. Check out my haves and wants here. :)

I have a great vacation package available to use in US, Spain, or Thailand anytime before 3/8/2009.

for anyone in the UK, i have a pristine HP laptop up for grabs with linux and xp, it ends tommorow so hurry! no doubt it will go quite cheaply seeing as none of us have ANY discretionary income anymore thanks to gordon brown and his poor economic management!

this is my first comment so i thought i'd slip in some social commentary so the mod was suitably impressed :D :D :D

Media Mail® service is a cost efficient way to mail books, sound recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded computer-readable media (such as CDs, DVDs, and diskettes).

When you go to the post office, they most likely will not offer media mail, you have to specifically ask for it. Be generic when they ask you what it is, for example, if you are sending a magazine or strategy guide, say it is a book, or when sending a game, call it a DVD. When you get into specifics it gives them more reasons to deny you.

user-pic

Great. Now eBay -a Consumerist candidate for worst company in America- is getting more business from no other source than the Consumerist!

user-pic

@postnocomments: Consumerist isn't about boycotting all the companies that make it on the blog. Consumerist is about making consumers aware of situations. I read every single Wal-Mart post, yet still shop at wal-mart for everything. I now know now to take my money order there. I know how to respond if they ask to see my receipt. And then again, some of the other stories hit home, and I do boycott.

user-pic

I have a nice desktop music synthesizer, a big hardware sampler, and a fancy 35mm camera with crazy lens that I'm looking to barter for an analogue synth, if anyone's interested. I mean, this ain't the classifieds in Keyboard magazine but, hey, while we're on the subject.

user-pic

Does it have to be an Ebay auction? I have no need to do business with Ebay as a seller.

I do, however, have a new-never-ever-used-perfect-condition Origo alcohol stove, for boating, camping, or emergencies, small and portable, in its original box with all pieces and papers. It's the Heat Pal 5100 model. I decided to go with a different emergency heat/cooking source (one that can use scrap wood or charcoal) and I don't need or want this one.

I did some research, and found it retails for no less than 125 dollars (most e-retailers have it for 139 and up and there are none on Ebay right now), but I'd be willing to accept 90 for it (you pay shipping) to get it out of the house.

Send me a message if you're interested.

user-pic

@speedwell: Barter is also great. I'm especially in the mood for:

- lenses that fit the Digital Rebel (ours works, thanks)
- a clean, good-working sewing machine (someone has one sitting around gathering dust)
- a basic weight bench set for my nephew in the San Antonio area (will pick up)
- a professional quality snap setter (for sewing)

But I'll consider any good trade.

user-pic

Ugh. I just don't do ebay. I have a bunch of prom gowns, sizes 2-6, and I'll ask, say, $50 each. Doubt there'll be any interest for them though! Ha.

user-pic

@pandroid: Might want to spice up that description a little bit ;)

user-pic

@stavs:

I had the same television before my wife let me upgrade as well. It was my first tv I purchased when I moved out on my own. Dont you love it when the wife gives you permission :)

user-pic

@chemmy:

...I don't want (what you're selling/giving away) but I do want to see you naked" etc etc...

Furiously looking for something to post on Craigslist...

user-pic

@ichiban1081: It is beautiful! She also let me get a brand new SVS sub to go along with it.

I am currently selling a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick that ends tonight. This joystick was discontinued by Microsoft a few years back, but is still very popular with fans of Microsoft Flight Simulator and other flight sims.

I am sell me love and heart to any accepting female for FREE. Shipping is FREE. But handling is 2.3 million euros.

user-pic

@gonz: Um, you're aware there's a name for people who allow other people to "handle" them in exchange for money, right?

Besides, it's not worth it. Ebay would kill your listing for excessive shipping costs. If I won the auction, and you were unsatisfactory, I couldn't ask for my money back, either. So I would have no recourse. Sorry, but unless you relist yourself at a more reasonable price and with fair-market shipping and handling, no bid here.
