looks like the starbucks coupon is meant to be given to you by a clerk. There is even a place for them to write in why they gave it.

  2. winstonthorne says:

    we’ll test it out.

  3. B says:

I’m gonna try out that Starbucks coupon. My beverage of choice is a vodka tonic.

  4. chiieddy says:

The place to write is where you write your favorite 12 oz iced beverage. Coupon expires 8/30/08

  5. boss_lady says:

@B: Bummer, redeemable in US Starbucks stores only. I love free shit.

  6. snoop-blog says:

Yeah the fine print gives you your choices of drinks I think.

Mine says: Limited to one complimentary tall (12 fl oz) Frappuccino, ice brewed coffee, iced espresso or iced tea beverage per person per transaction.

It was pretty hard to make out though.

  7. RhymePhile says:

Awesome Jamba Juice coupon! I’m printing it now — some of those smoothies are expensive (like $7) if you get the large size. Now I have to find somebody to walk over there with me to get the free one.

  8. SkokieGuy says:

I went to Starbucks this morning and when the handed me the receipt they said if I brought it back after 2pm, I’d get a free iced coffee.

In other news, their stock as of 9:31 Central Time is down over 3% from yesterday’s close.

I’m no economist (the only thing me and John McCain have in common), but perhaps giving away free stuff has the potential to hurt profits?

  9. Walrii says:

So the Starbucks coupon really works? Even though it will have quite obviously been printed out by me?

  10. boss_lady says:

@Walrii: It should. Sometimes when money is tight, I visit a few coupon print-out sites online for grocery items (they usually only cover brand-name products) and have never had a problem redeeming them at any store.

  11. RandomHookup says:

@boss_lady: True, but Starbucks doesn’t really do the same kind of online coupons and they have been screwed by these things in the past. The last one was their fault, but I’m guessing these won’t make the cut.

  12. snoop-blog says:

Yeah can we get some confirmation that these will work? I feel like I’m somehow scamming them by trying to use this.

  13. snoop-blog says:

Also, I have a black and white printer only (I’m at work), so this coupon looks even more shady.

  14. SaveMeJeebus says:

Shouldn’t this coupon have the new naked mermaid on it?

  15. dianabanana says:

@snoop-blog: Same. Someone verify it works before I go try and scam Starbucks out of a fatty frap.

  16. Walrii says:

@SaveMeJeebus: I don’t think it has to. Their website doesn’t even have the naked one on it.

  17. friendlynerd says:

Yeah after I printed the Starbucks coupon I decided not to even try using it – it’s all pixelated and looks really shady.

  18. SaveMeJeebus says:

Hmmm… regardless, I will wait until it’s verified before I hear “told you so” from the wife.

  19. Amarain824 says:

    It doesn’t work. I looked really shady…boo.

  20. Derv says:

It works! I just used it at the Starbucks in Lynchburg, VA. I wrote the consumerist.com web address on it for the manager, and they accepted it.

  21. muffingal says:

At my local Starbucks in Paramus, I was told that they needed the actually laminated card (even though the coupon does not state that no photocopies are accepted). She was nice enough to give me a free drink though and even asked me what size I wanted! I wasn’t greedy and asked for the tall as the coupon stated.

  22. Starbucks doesn’t do online coupons. I guarantee you that. Every time they end up on the internet, the free-loaders go crazy and print out 100 of the things and hand them to their friends and family. So, while they may be taking them now, you will more than likely see a sign up at the counter in the next week or so saying, “Sorry…no.”

Of course, I could be wrong in this case as getting you into the stores is the whole point of coupons…one free 12oz drink isn’t enough for most people…we’ll see.

  23. ConsumptionJunkie says:

I was at six SBUX in Boston and only one accepted my coupon.

  24. prupie says:

It worked for me this morning, in Arlington, VA, but barely. When I left with my free nonfat caramel macchiatto, I believe the manager was still looking at the printout, trying to decipher the discount code in the small print and asking baristas if they’d seen the coupon before.

  25. chemguyatgwu says:

I just got the Starbucks coupon to work on my first try. One of the girls in our office and I went to the Starbucks on Penn Ave and 20th in DC. They just took the pieces of paper (B&W) and asked what we wanted and the size. We too weren’t greedy and stayed with the talls. They didn’t hesitate at all. Enjoy.

  26. dianabanana says:

    @ConsumptionJunkie: You tried 6 times?? That’s hardcore.

  27. alannaface says:

The coupon did not work at a store in Burlington,MA and they are usually pretty friendly at that store. Looks like the way to go might be using the coupon in hopes that the baristas feel sorry for you, tell you it isn’t valid, and take it anyways. Probably works better if you’re not getting ONLY a “free” drink.

  28. RandomHookup says:

@dianabanana: Just read his user name.

  29. unkle says:

girlfriend tried it and she said:

tried the starbucks one out today to which the barista man replied

    1) this isn’t real
    2) but i’ll let you use it

  30. drjayphd says:

@dianabanana: That’s nothing, I was ready to hit six Dunkin Donuts on free coffee day. Then my bladder thought better of it.

  31. drjayphd says:

Oooh, that Video Transfer…er looks really tempting, even though I could just use my laptop and a USB-to-RCA dongle. Is getting S-video and removing the lappy from the recording equation worth $80?

  32. blahdyblah says:

I’m a barista, and I can tell you that that coupon is meant to given to you from a barista. So this is dubious however, you’d probably get away with it because of how non confrontational most baristas are, hell I know I hate having to deal with angry customers.

  33. chiieddy says:

I just received word from my husband (an ASM at Starbucks). There’s a fraud-alert on those coupons from Starbucks. They are only ONE SIDE of a valid coupon.
