Starbucks' "food chief" has resigned and has not been replaced. RIP, breakfast sandwiches. Did anyone actually eat those? Guess not. [WSJ]

Actually, my wife who just quit there said the sandwiches were boosting their sales turning their non-profitable store profitable. Also, they took the sandwiches off the menu boards months ago, and people are continuing to ask for them. The general complaint was they (Starbucks staff) didn't want it to smell like a McDonalds. But then again, who's stock in tanking and who's doing well for themselves? Seems irresponsible for those that rely on their stock options to reach a decent wage.
Years ago when they first introduced food, it was really good. The salads were big, and had been put together locally (they were super fresh). Since then, the price has doubled and the portion sized has halved, plus it's all shipped in from across the country. The sandwiches are nothing but runny cheese that looks like something that's been hit on the street outside. If they go back to just coffee (and maybe the madelines, which are awesome) I'll be happy.
Those breakfast sandwiches were awesome. They tasted like what I wish an Egg McMuffin tasted like. Sharp cheddar (not American) cheese, and an English muffin that was actually crispy on the outside -- a revolutionary concept that McDonalds abandoned when they started making Egg McMuffins in the freaking MICROWAVE. They were worth the wait and will be missed.
@Elijah-M: No part of the McMuffin is made in the microwave. The problem is lazy workers set the toaster speed as high as possible so they don't have to wait, and the english muffins barely get warmed. Ask for the muffin well done and you'll get better results-well, except for the American cheese thing...
I love people who are like "Starbucks? what's that?"
Give me an f-ing break. If you live in a suburb of Topeka, Kansas you still know what a SBux is, and you know there are always people there (granted, a few less since 4 Qs ago).
Likewise, I was rather fond of those crappy, overpriced breakfast sandwiches. Oh yeah, Sbux, hurt me some more. Charge me $6 for an iced vanilla latte, I love it.

*gasp* What a shocker!
