For The Lumber Liquidators, Economic Woes Yield Advertising Gold

2139 views

While some people conflate "recession" with "depression," the enterprising gents at Lumber Liquidators are using it as a cheery marketing hook. An ad on their website shouts, "Take advantage of the weak dollar! We ship anywhere in the world." I guess when your brand is all about the color yellow, it's hard to be a mopeypants.

"Please take advantage of us in our exposed position!"

the "week dollar" huh? Does anyone proofread consumerist posts before they are uploaded?

Just curious.

user-pic

"the week dollar"?

I thought at first it was some sort of genious pun, but then realized it was just a typo :P

user-pic

How is this a surprise to anyone? Exporters have been doing this since the dollar's decline started. This is no different at all.

user-pic

"Selling this country away one plank at a time..."

user-pic

@civicmon: Who said it was a surprise? It's just amusing.

user-pic

Which Circle of Hell™ was reserved for grammar Nazi's again? I keep forgetting. ;)

user-pic

I'm all for letting our exports catch up with our imports - it'll just strengthen the dollar. ;)

user-pic

this just in: there still is no recession

user-pic

Er, yeah, this is the way it works. A weak dollar leads to more exports. Is someone saying this is bad?

user-pic

I GUESS I NEED TO PUT THE "AMUSING" TAG ON THE F******* POST.

user-pic

@darksunfox: This is exactly what we NEED to do. Our dollar is weak because we're sending too much of it overseas. We need to sell our resources, not buy everyone elses.

user-pic

Unexpected? No. Funny? Yes. It's like a bumper sticker I saw on the back of a truck for a casket company-"Drive slowly-we can wait." the fact that they advertised didn't surprise me, but the ad in and of itself was humorous.

user-pic

@Ben Popken: Hey, maybe you should tag this post as amusing. And not typo. And anticipate what stocks will rise soon so I can make some big bucks. And maybe tell me who's winning the Series this year?

user-pic

I thought I just read on the Straight Dope that wood doesn't melt.

user-pic

I think they're also the ones whose recent radio advertisement says "In many inconvenient locations, that's right, inconvenient, we don't put our stores in those high-rent places close to you so we can pass savings on to you"

user-pic

Kick those bastards out of the country!

user-pic

@dragonfire81: I wonder that many times. I would love volunteer proofreading as I'm an English/linguistics nerd, but I'm working when most of the stories are published. I guess they're just in a hurry to get them posted?

user-pic

What's wrong with that? The weak dollar boosts exports, duh. They should be taking full advantage of it. So are many other companies. Good for them!

@Coles_Law: that's awesome. thanks for the lol.
