WaMu Backs Down, Returns The $1500 To Bill's Bank Account
Bill, whose small business checking account had been inappropriately drafted $1500, sent us the following email late last night:
After another battle with a branch manager today—who insisted that money couldn't be returned and that I needed to fill out a fraud report—I went over her head. After a heated, uh, discussion, the main downtown Seattle branch put the $1,500 back in my business checking account. The $7 fee was refunded a few hours later.
Some bad PR in Consumerist no doubt helped. Thank you!
We're not sure we posted the story in time to have an effect on the outcome, but we'll take it.

It's really sad you have to post crap service on the internet before a company will attempt to do the right thing. Big FAIL for WaMu. I would never bank there.

My kids have CD accounts at WAMU. They'll be due in 3 weeks at which time I'll be cashing them out and buying booze and hookers.
Seriously: I'm going to find a bank paying more than 1% on a CD for their money.
Close your account. Any bank that basically steals money from your account and refuses to refund it shouldn't be trusted.
