I'd also like to point out that those are WHOLESALE birds, and they are going to be shipped via airlines, so yeah, pay for a $100 plane ride for a $6 bird??? Not such a good deal...

But seriously, if you go to Petfinder.com and type into the search engine "birds" "parakeets" and your local zip code, you may be surprised to see what is available. Our local rescue league gets quite a few parakeets and other tame birds relinquished for rehoming. And there are some regional rescue groups specifically dedicated to rehoming pet birds.

I think the aprakeets are for staving off tax cat.

I'm really disturbed and offended by the "live parakeets sale" and I'm glad others are voicing their opinions as well. For shame consumerist.

Live keets for $6? This makes me so sad! Unfortunately budgies are considered the "hamsters" of the bird world. If they were priced more people would probably be more inclined to give them proper care, not that it stops larger, more expensive birds from being neglected either.

Actually I'm glad Consumerist posted the link, I'm going to shoot it off to my budgie groups.

@Katorok: I agree that a deal on parakeets is strange. Due to their longevity, a lot of pet birds become abandoned. Please purchase responsibly.

I am also offended by this disposable parakeet deal. Ordering a box of 50?? Yikes.
