Flying continues to get more awesome! My brother got stuck in Biloxi, MS last weekend when SkyBus went belly-up all of a sudden, and was left to beg and plead for a ticket from another airline. He will not be issued a refund.

I wish that airlines would just get rid of MD80's. They're gas hogs anyway. 737's are far more efficient. It doesn't make sense that an industry that is clinging to life only by cutting costs wants to keep these pigs in the air.

@humphrmi:bought and paid for in most cases though, no expensive lease payments.

Thank goodness my flight next week is on a 737

Yeah, I think it might be time to retire the 30-year-old MD80s. Though I'd be satisfied with regular maintenance and inspections.

@yagisencho: While the design is not new, the aircraft themselves were manufactured well into the late '90s. Or did you mean you only think it's time to retire the individual aircraft that have reached their 30th anniversary?

My friend's flight this afternoon with American Airlines was canceled, and they issued her a ticket on a Delta flight, leaving at 4:30 today. Guess what? It was one of the ones canceled in this round. So I had to leave work to drive her an hour and a half to the nearest airport and get her on another flight (it was a work-related trip).
