2. fuzzball21 says:

Parakeets? Seriously, come on people… there are a TON of HOMELESS birds out there… go adopt, it’s more rewarding.

rotflcat?

4. fuzzball21 says:

I’d also like to point out that those are WHOLESALE birds, and they are going to be shipped via airlines, so yeah, pay for a $100 plane ride for a $6 bird??? Not such a good deal…

5. Flibbetigibbet says:

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are excellent. Great “deal” on a freebie.

“Arab, Alabama” (pronounced Ay-rab, I’ve actually been there), I’m not so sure about…

6. pattymc says:

50 Birds to a box….wtf?

Wholesaling little birds as if they were boxes of crackers or lug nuts. Pretty gross.

7. humphrmi says:

@fuzzball21: Homeless BIRDS? Seriously? OK I get dogs and cats, but homeless birds? I’ve got a couple of dozen birds sitting on my utility pole right now, how can I tell which ones are homeless? And how do I go about adopting one of them?

8. chemmy says:

live parakeets?

as opposed to… dead ones?

9. humphrmi says:

No, no…..No, ‘e’s stunned! Parakeets stun easily, major.

600$ Tax Rebate
6$ Dollar Parakeets
Volume Discounts for groups of 100 birds .

Coincidence I think not! I know what I am doing with my tax rebate.

@humphrmi:
ha ha.
But seriously, if you go to Petfinder.com and type into the search engine “birds” “parakeets” and your local zip code, you may be surprised to see what is available. Our local rescue league gets quite a few parakeets and other tame birds relinquished for rehoming. And there are some regional rescue groups specifically dedicated to rehoming pet birds.

12. raleel says:

I think the aprakeets are for staving off tax cat.

13. ExtraCelestial says:

I’m really disturbed and offended by the “live parakeets sale” and I’m glad others are voicing their opinions as well. For shame consumerist.

14. stanfrombrooklyn says:

Do they taste like chicken?

15. SexCpotatoes says:

Yeah, but how does parakeet taste?

16. AnnaKeats says:

Live keets for $6? This makes me so sad! Unfortunately budgies are considered the “hamsters” of the bird world. If they were priced more people would probably be more inclined to give them proper care, not that it stops larger, more expensive birds from being neglected either.

Actually I’m glad Consumerist posted the link, I’m going to shoot it off to my budgie groups.

17. mammalpants says:

just scored some parakeets AND a shredder! booyah!

18. @ElizabethD: Can they rehome pigeons?

19. humphrmi says:

@mammalpants: Methinks this doesn’t bode well.

20. ludwigk says:

@Katorok: I agree that a deal on parakeets is strange. Due to their longevity, a lot of pet birds become abandoned. Please purchase responsibly.

21. faust1200 says:

I am also offended by this disposable parakeet deal. Ordering a box of 50?? Yikes.

22. KAIZEN says:

Does anybody have a good parakeet recipe?

23. MeOhMy says:

@faust1200: You pretty much need 50 for two servings. They are like pheasants…only EVEN LESS MEAT!
