You may notice that the site looks different. Yes, we updated our template. Feel free to leave your thoughts or bugs (along with browser and OS type and version) in the comments. (BTW, we're aware of the XP and IE6 viewing problems and are working hard to fix them).

Here's to hoping that the nested comments script gets updated for the site redesign.

user-pic

I had to change my security settings to accept Digg & Gridskipper in order to see anything, also I'm getting some overlapping text (IE 6/XP).

user-pic

The new layout looks fine. My comment is more on the artwork you promote. Some of that shit is terribly creepy. If I have to look into that blonde woman's makeup smudged whore eyes one more time I might have to regurgitate. Just sayin...

[consumerist.com]

Links crowding timmus' post; tried refreshing and the same thing happened.

user-pic

The network at my work hates your new template. I can't access below the Iphone story and I can't even get to the bottom of the story when I try to read it.

Its not the site, it is the network here. This sort of stuff happens on a lot of sites.

user-pic

site isnt working for me in IE7 works fine in FF2, just FYI

user-pic

I can't image the layout looking any worse than it does under IE 5.5. Text sitting on top of other text, 3 stories visible, bottom navigation covering other text. Yuck!

Not like I have a choice here at work. *tragic*

user-pic

@yankerosa: ya know? I'm REALLY sick of seeing that creepy skinny guy with the fucked up chest hair. This Gawker artwork is disturbing.

user-pic

I should mention I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.12 and everything looks normal.

user-pic

its very broken in Opera, from what I can tell. Tried it at work and at home.

Does anyone else use Opera and have the same issue? I'm running v9.26.

user-pic

@Applekid: Same exact issues on IE6

user-pic

IE7 - Everything looks fine, but I sure would like it if clicking the big ol' "The Consumerist" banner up top would still take me back to the main page - same goes for all the other gawker sites now too

user-pic

We still have to use IE 6 at work, and like missdona, I'm also getting overlapping text and am now also unable to scroll to the bottom of the page (IE 6/XP Pro SP2). I verified this problem on a couple of machines. Running Firefox (portableapp version), everything looks OK. So IE 6 has issues bad enough that the site is mostly unusable with it.

user-pic

id love to see the site detect the width of my browser window and adjust the margins accordingly... instead of centering with a given width.

user-pic

IE 6 on Win2000. Couldn't comment until I hit reply to another comment because my page wouldn't load all the way (couldn't see past Peach422's comment; same thing happens on the main page- I couldn't see past the 3rd article). Red links (for comments, other Gawker sites, etc) all over the place, including in the middle of a story. Please fix! I can't read consumerist and I'm going out of my mind!

user-pic

IE7 sp2. The layout stops loading after ~two stories, gawker links jumbled together; I can only access old stories through my recent comments page. I can't even see my comment anymore because the page's scrollbar doesn't move and I'll only be able to submit via tabbing. Did all the Gawker sites update? I'm having issues on all of them, the rest of the web works fine so I don't think it's my browser. I'll try back after class.

user-pic

The links on the bottom of page overlay this comment box. (IE 7/XP)

Btw, I agree with @yankerosa: about the art and especially with the "makeup smudged whore eyes". Creeps me out.

Help, I can't scroll to the submit button! Oh, tab worked. But it's all wonky.

user-pic

Yeah, red links to read comments are overlaid on the areticle summary. IE6 and stuck with it.

user-pic

Yikes, now the comments flood upward and take up the entire story space. More of the browser page is 'loading', as in the scrollbar will actually move, but new stories are getting sucked upward and disappearing under the main banner. Most of the main page is blank. IE 7 in case my last comment got gobbled.

user-pic

FINALLY! I couldnt comment or get the page to load correctly for the longest time! I thought I was goin nuts! WOrds on the page were on top of other words, I couldnt get the page to load right so I could even comment until just now.

I am using IE6 & XP

Note: the "click here to reply to this comment" square icon with the arrow inside on everyone's comment is showing like I am seeing double (double icons right under the other)

Dont fix what wasnt broken! :(

user-pic

Windows Mobile, Opera 8.65. The right edge of the page gets cut off and I can't scroll to see it. I thought this story originally said you guys updated your ten, and got confused until I saw the rest of the page.

Please bring back my ability to read Consumerist during class!

user-pic

AdBlock in Firefox is killing it.

user-pic

Pages are loading now. But the "Reply To" arrow icon is actually two (one on top of the other, but only the top one works) like forgottenpassword said. Also, all stories on the main page that are just bullets (no heading), have the '# of comments' link right in the middle of the first line of the actual story. Very annoying.

user-pic

@yankerosa, @homerjay, @Landru: You can use AdBlocker Pro to prevent those images from showing up if they bother you.

user-pic

Pages are finally loading on IE6 and WinXP, but the bulleted quick posts like this one have the "comments" section inside and overlapping the text of the post. The rest of the posts are doing OK, and the page is able to be viewed all the way through.

user-pic

The only issue I have is that occasionally the page will be far too wide and I have to scroll right and left. Also, on stories over 100 comments, typing in the comments box has a lag. I'm not running any greasemonkey scripts, either.

yankerosa: I think she's kinda hot, personally.

user-pic

Viewing on Safari 3.0.4. So... The ads are more noticable! Everything's scrunched in the middle of the page. It's harder to read because of this. The Consumerist is now a column down the middle of the page. Booooo.

user-pic

Everything is working fine for me. I'm on FireFox 2.whatever.

@homerjay: THANK YOU. That image creeps me out more than anything else here.

user-pic

Actually, I should probably mention that when I post my comments, I can't see them on the page for several minutes. This happens sporadically, but it's sort of always happened, so is probably not attributable to the layout update.

user-pic

All of the Gawker sites were unreadable for me this morning. All I could get was the header and the horizontal lines that appear between the stories. I can finally see the rest of the site now, but am experiencing the same problems as noted above (overlapping text, double reply arrows, etc.). I'm using IE6 on XP (and not by choice).

user-pic

Everything works great on Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Ubuntu 7.10. Still boggles my mind that people still use internet explorer and not an alternative.

user-pic

Works fine here.

XP ff2 with adblock.

user-pic

Let's see if they've fixed This yet.

user-pic

Sorry guys, but I can't say I like it... The page looks really squished and off center when using a larger monitor, and the ads are terribly placed (the banner ad going across wider than the content just looks horrible).

Using adblock makes it better, but you still have the off-center column of info that just looks weird.

Using Firefox 3.0b5 on Mac OSX 10.5 with screen res of 1920x1200 and adblock turned off, the site comes out looking like this: [www.eagerdesigns.com.au] and that just ain't cool.

user-pic

Font too big. Let us change it if we want to.

Nested comments don't work. Still.

user-pic

I am using IE7 on XP and the words are overlapping each other.

Otherwise, everything looks good.

user-pic

Was there a problem with the previous template, or was this just a case of somebody being tired of the old look? The latter reminds me of restaurants that take popular dishes off the menu because the kitchen crew is bored with making them.

BTW, it looks fine in Safari 2.0.4.

And I too am creeped out by the pictures of skinny young guys with long eyelashes who look like they're waiting for their top to beat them and are simultaneously depressed, scared and excited.

user-pic

The old layout, or logo at the top used to let you click on the word, "The consumerist" and return you to the front page. That doesn't work anymore :( Can we get a linkie back to the main home page?

I frequently go several pages deep and want to get back to the home page... A clickie link is ubar :)

Thanks!

user-pic

(BTW, we're aware of the XP and IE6 viewing problems and are working hard to fix them).

But are you taking it seriously ?!?!?! :)

user-pic

glad i can comment again. Don't ever criticize the overlords at consumerist or the banhammer will fall on you!

user-pic

I don't like the fact that if you want to go to a sister site in the Gawker family, you have to go to the bottom of the page for a link. It was great when they were available in the column to the left <---.

user-pic

@mercnet: Would you like to come over here and convince our dept. heads to make the leap to Firefox? Not all of us are using IE6 by choice.

user-pic

It looks...different.

What happened to the ! to report the post (not that I would ever use it)...?

user-pic

@alphafemale: but I sure would like it if clicking the big ol' "The Consumerist" banner up top would still take me back to the main page...

Seconded!

BTW...love the avatar!

user-pic

Let's see.... it's certainly typing a whole lot better. I'm using OSX with Firefox, and it used to be that I would have to type my comments into Word and copy and paste it over because there would be a CONSTANT lag. It's still lagging a lot though, Consumerist. And it doesn't lag anywhere else but here.

user-pic

just a general suggestion for the site... at the bottom of the news page, it's more user friendly to label the links "earlier" and "newer" rather than "next" and "previous."

user-pic

AlphaFemale said: Everything looks fine, but I sure would like it if clicking the big ol' "The Consumerist" banner up top would still take me back to the main page - same goes for all the other gawker sites now too"

Agreed!!
